Larry — Have you successfully gotten new Mac NEC CD-ROM drivers by calling 1-800-388-8888? Ive been trying to get the new drivers for two weeks, and the tech support people keep saying theyll get around to it or theyll try to find out what the problem is. Im ready to send my reader back to Educorp! Its useless! Dave

Dave — Yes I did get the drivers from NEC about a week after I called. I can send them to you if you want — they didn't solve my problem which is apparently hardware related. My CDR-36 drive makes coffee grinder sounds when it tries to access any track on an audio CD other than track 0. I went out today and bought an Apple CD 300. I don't know why they are being so uncooperative with you. The first line in the letter enclosed with the diskette is: [Dear NEC Customer, Enclosed is your copy of the new Macintosh 3.06 CD-Rom driver as requested.] Larry

Larry — Well good. Now I know that at least they do have a driver and a form letter to send to me. My only guess is that it was completely lost in that snowstorm on the East Coast and ended up in some ditch. Actually, if I don't have it by Monday, I'll probably call Educorp, who I bought the drive from. They should take some of the responsibility. Too bad about your CDR-36. Now I wish the CD300 was the one I'd gotten too. Did you buy an external unit? How much did you pay? Dave

Larry — Finally got the drivers Monday. They work fine. I take back everything bad I ever said about NEC. They are the swiftest company in the world. Dave

Sorry for breaking in, but… consider yourself lucky. I waited 4 weeks for my drivers to arrive. In addition, NEC *LOST* a CDR-74 that I sent back for warranty service in February. After hassling their customer service & repair center for a week, they "found" my drive and are currently repairing it… but no word on when I'll get it back. Michael O'Connell, ICOM Simulations

Pardon me, I just jumped in on this conversation and have missed the first part. What was the problem you were having in the first place which caused you to need the new drivers in the first place? The reason I ask is that I've got a CDR-37 which is about 1mo. old and I'm having flaky intermittent problems with it on CD-ROMs and Audio CDs. Thanks…
