#Object atributes

Could someone please tell me how I can apply a given set of attributes to an object that consists of several joined objects (like text)? I want to make my text objects a certain color, but the only way I can do that is to unjoin them, and apply the color to them seperately and hope I have all the settings the same on each letter. Any help would be appreciated!

Unless all you want to do is change the Colors of the different "pieces" or the Reflectivity or the Filter Values you are better off breaking the object into different Pieces. Otherwise just use "Pick Faces" and make a Subgroup for each differently colored section this way if you later change your mind on coloring you can simply select a Subgroup instead of the Faces.

Daniel, change to "pick object mode", select all objects, press F6 (open the attrib requester) and adjust everything and save the attributes, click on OK -> another attrib requester for the next object will open. load the previous saved attribs and ckick on OK again.. and so on. That's so far the only way. Hope 3.0 will have an easier solution to that. -David

Daniel, If you have actually JOIN'ed the objects, you can enter PICK FACES mode, and using the drag box with the SHIFT key down (for multiple faces), pick all of the faces of one letter. If you then select ATTRIBUTES, you will be shown a modified attributes requester which will allow you to adjust the color, filter, and reflection values of the selected faces. Repeat the procedure for each letter. If the objects are grouped instead of joined, enter PICK OBJECTS mode and select all the objects (using the shift key again). Select OBJECT/ATTRIBUTES and the first object's attr requester will appear. Set the texture as desired and click SAVE in the attribute requester. Enter any filename, and click OK once the attr is saved. The next selected object's attribute requester will appear. Just click LOAD, hit ENTER to accept the filename you just used, then click OK. Repeat for each object's requester. -Steve

Dan, 3.0 will be MUCH easier to use. I am wrapping up several utilities for working with 2.9 files. If necessary, I will write routines to help make up for 3.0 deficiencies, in any case, we should start seeing 3.0 in 10 days! 🙂 Steve

Daniel, an addendum to Steven's reply: if you select several faces and set their attributes, you can give different attributes to different faces, sure. But those settings are fragile: if you ever change the attributes for the whole object, (i.e. enter Attributes while in Pick Objects or Pick Groups rather than Pick Faces), *** ALL *** faces will receive the new object attributes. I prefer using Pick Faces followed by Make Subgroup to create named groups of faces. After setting attributes for each group of faces, but before clicking on OK, I can save the subgroup attributes. Then, if I ever wipe out all my custom attributes with one careless object-wide attribute change, I can reload each attribute to the proper subgroup. Named subgroups are one of those essential Imagine functions. By the way, Imagine 2.9's Spline Editor allows you to import a Postscript font and create an extruded, bevelled, perfect 3-D logo! Even better, the resulting Imagine object has predefined face subgroups like "Front bevel" and "Back faces". Perfect! Many kudos to Impulse for such a complete implementation. Blaq!
