to: GVP Technical Support From: Ron Flory, [71053,3551] Subj: TBC-Plus Crashes I recently purchased a new GVP TBC-Plus for my Amiga and have been having a few problems with it- from time to time. I have been unable to reach a GVP Technical Support person. 1. The entire system crashes when TBC-Plus tries to read a JPG image file whose y-size (height) is larger than the screen buffer. Every time I try to read a .JPG file that is 800 pixels high, the TBC causes the entire system to lock up solid. No mouse, no keyboard- just dead. 2. While adjusting H-Phase on advanced panel, the output image is corrupted if the input is from the frame buffer. While running the H-phase slider from left to right, horizontal noise appears and stays in the captured image. This appears to be a wild pointer problem where your software is clobbering the frame buffer. 3. Several TBC AREXX commands are not implemented. I have been unable to control many aspects of the TCB-Plus via remote control because the AREXX commands were omitted. 4. Your Automated Technical Service Line is frustrating. I hope I'm wrong in my understanding that you have ceased providing online customer support- If true, this would amount to nothing less than business suicide. Referring technical support to dealers is a joke since most dealers are less knowlegable and helpful than their customers. Being a computer Hardware/ Software engineer myself, I have firsthand experience with this situation. Although an automated system is a good tool to help screen simple problems before they waste the valuable time of a support person; I for one will not purchase anything from a company with such disregard for their customers. Although you made several (major) technical/layout errors on your SCSI/8-meg controller card, I feel GVP products are generally well deigned and almost fairly priced. Again, I hope I'm wrong in my understanding of the situation. Ron Flory Avionics Software Engineer IFR Systems, Inc. Wichita Ks Work: 316-522-4981 x355 Home: 316-733-2760

Dear Ron, Thank you for taking the time to document the problems you've found with our TBC plus unit. The issues concerning the loading of images (not just JPEG) which do not conform to the size of the TBC's buffer is something that we have been made aware of and will be fixing in the next version of the software. The other issues I will need to reproduce first, but I assure you that if in fact they are due to a programming error they will be promptly addressed. In closing I want to make you aware that GVP is not closing its doors to end-users. If one of our customers wants to get in contact with GVP directly, there are other avenues which he can use to do this. Our fax line is always open, and one can always use US MAIL as well. Compuserve is yet another resource which customers can (and are) using to get answers from us. Granted, some situations would better be handled via phone conversation but in order to provide support for our dealer base we were forced to re-direct our resources in the manner in which things are now. I'll try to provide a list of the AREXX commands left out of the current release. I guess if we cant have 'live phone support, then responsive compuserve support isn;t so bad…
