Typically, but not always. I don't visit the hardware section but I still end
up reading alot of threads about animation controllers specifically in the 3D
Studio section.

WinCIM and it works just fine. I'm on once a day (or more) 4 days a week. My
lightly intended jibe about money was directed at the cost VTR controllers, not
logging on. I don't own one, I'm a ways away from affording one so the threads
are not currently useful to me, though they are important to others.
Don't get me wrong, this is not a rant. I'm not up in arms about having to read
threads that I'm not immmediately interested in. The question was how to
logically split a section that has grown large.

I, like many, scraped and saved to buy a program that I had access to at work
and grew to love. If you own 3DS it dosn't automatically follow that there are
spare thousands hanging around. Not every 3DS user is a service bureau. Some
purchase and use it for there own work, as opposed to becoming a business.
O.K. Bruce, you caught me! <g> I was in another one of my fiesty moods when I
read your thread. All your points are well made. I agree that just because you
were able to pick 3DS up doesn't automatically mean you have thousands laying
around but on the other hand as you pointed out the issue was not about
spending the money on the forum but about all the other peripheral items that
add up. Personally, I'd rather see a self monitoring awareness campaign,
diplomatically handled of course, than a break up of the forum. But as they
say, we shall see. Thanks for your comments.
I'm curious to know if you software has a feature for re-routing or renaming a
thread to get it in the right area if it gets off track. This is not directed
at you per se. I'm just kinda doing an informal info gathering on this, to get
a feel for how easy it is to do with most of the available packages.

As much as I said WinCIM is fine in my last message, it's handling of
messages is a bit of a problem. I know of no feature it has that
allows thread manipulation.They get placed under their subject
headings and that's that, no back-talk. They're not even saved as
normal ascii text but instead are full of control chars. It's
difficult to archaive a full thread because each individual message
has to to be saved and/or printed seperately. <sigh>
I'm considering switching to Compuserve Navigator, but I'd like to
know what it's like first.
Bruce, several people are checking out the CSNAV but being able to
re-route threads has so far not been mentioned. If you happen to
check it out, it would definitely be of interest to all. (Wanna keep
our Sysops happy!)

Well I hope it comes to something. I think many of these programs are
kinda lacking in good thread management features. But we shall see.

Bruce:
FWIW GoCIS (formerly WinCIS) has the re-routing features your looking
for. It's actually packed with features that have been found in DOS
interfaces like Ozcis and Tapcis. You can download the program from
the WUGNET forum and check it out. There's full scripting to
download particular forums, sections, just headers, mail, you name
it. There are also add on utilities like a spell checker and a
signature footer that can be automatically added to messages and
mail. At 9600 baud I average downloading 100 forum messages per
minute logged on. Don Landis if you're out there you might want to
check this interface out as it may alleviate some problems you've
been having lately.
Thanks for the info. I average about 2-3 minutes to download about
100 forum messages but that's not what I was concerned about. It
appears that for the past month I have been experiencing sluggishness
in logons and switching to other forums. Once in a forum the speed
seems normal. I don't see how this could be improved here. I think
it must be local traffic related because as an experiment I logged on
in the wee hours of the morning and the forum was at normal speed
again. I might have to check out some of those other packages though
because a 2 -1 speed increase for downloads is very significant.
