#Free/Old IPAS'
13 messages in this thread
I'm interested in any free/really cheap IPAS' around. Are old ones
given away when replaced with newer versions? What about PD IPAS'?
R2 IPAS'? I'd live to get a bunch of different ones, especially like
a spurt and an explode. A neon would be good as well. Should I dig
around in the files area?
I don't think that liscence agreements would allow one to give away
an upgraded IPAS, so you wouldn't find any of that sort in the
libraries here. There are a few public domain IPAS', but I beleive
theses also come with 3DS as examples. If you check in here
regularly (you do…), you'll probably find somebody selling some
IPAS routines, but it's pretty rare.

What I meant to say was you couldn't give away the old version after upgrading,
as far as I know.

Hey Mr Great Name the Younger,
You'll find a few free-bees in the libs. Just saw one, FFD, was
uploaded last night. I suspect you'll see more as more people get
the IPAS programming fever. How about getting the kit and writing
some for us?
Does this mean you finally bought 3D Studio?

Anyday now!! 🙂 Just getting prepared.. I just installed a Texel CD-ROM drive
(and a Sound Blaster ASP SCSII-2 for good measure) so I could play games, um..
I mean get 3DS. <g> And, in the spirit of things, bought a Maxtor 540 MB 8.5ms
drive as well. <g> I needed more growing room.
I have $800 budgeted for 3D stuff, but found that the student version is now
$1000 retail.. instead of $500. 🙁 The promotional price ended less than a
week ago! But I found it in a local college bookstore for $749, so I think
that will have to do. I won't be able to get any new IPAS' for a while then..
(hence the free-be question) I was planning to get the skinning one coming
out, but it'll have to wait. Anyways, it's much better than the full price, so
I can't complain. But I guess I'll pay my dues for R4… (and my compuserve
bill.. <g>)
Next week is Spring Break, and I'll probably be glued to the computer, playing
with 3DS. The tutorials should fill that week quite completely <g>. 40 hours
they say?? Getting those done should be a rewarding experience. But who
knows? I may just blow off the whole week and do something perfectly pointless
like the rest my age.
You'll know when I get it. I'll throw a virtual party. Just too bad about the
IPAS'. I was looking forward to playing with gasses, fire, and skinning
things. I'm not sure how to do my character stuff now. I guess I'll have to
do it the hard way, or use my old Playmation. Ce'st La' Vie.
Take care
JNJ

But what would your parents have to say about this? They might not approve! 🙂

hehe, dunno. Well, being 23 and spending my own money, they don't have much
say. (although I always listen) I think I'll get EXPLODE, and MELT while I'm
at it.. <ggg> Any other destructive IPAS' out there?? How about a NUKE or a
VAPORIZE? <G> (I think I've been playing DOOM too much.)
Who did the animation with the robot creature, and the exploding farm house in
Nebraska that was used in ad's a while back? I'd love to see the full video.
(and any other work you all have done as well.)
JNJ
I have no idea who did the exploding farm house or the robot creature. As far
as work I have done, you'd be pretty board. I make maps and fiddle with
satellite images for a living. 3DS I do for fun in my spare time. I am working
on a demo tape but that is a while in coming
Jamie Clay, my boss, did the exploding farm house. He did some animation tests
of it too. Actually, that was how he got the still, he would animate the whole
thing and then choose a frame which looked good, then render that particular
frame in highres for the ad. The video tests came out pretty well. I don't know
if they'll ever be put on a tape for the world to see.
I don't know which robot you are talking about, there's been so many.
Yann Bertaud – VPG, Autodesk.
now that I remember it, I believe the exploding robot was done by Daryl
Anderson. Of course I could be completely wrong. I am at work now, so I can't
look it up and say for sure.
Yup. Darrel Anderson did the exploding robot.

I think you can even learn HOW he did the exploding (actually disintegrating)
robot too in the 3DSr3 manual in the back area where all the colour pictures
are. I could be wrong.
