#Snapshotting SHOW ALL

HELP!….I've just upgraded to 2.04, and I have one rather simple question.
I noticed, through downloading and unarcing a file that happened to contain
subdirectories and the associated .info files for those subdirectories,
that you could set how you wanted windows to display by default….not the
icon positions, but rather the VIEW BY -> Text,Date,Size, etc…. is there
a way to snapshot a drawer to be a "SHOW ALL FILES" drawer?
I've tried just about everything I can think of. The only way I can get it
anywhere near working is if I snapshot my Hard-drive partition to showall
files, but then EVERY drawer does it….not what I want!!!!
This is totally undocumented in the 2.04 manual (at least as far as I could
see). Anyone had any luck with such things?????

Set the window with Show and Show by the way you want it and with the
window selected still selected, pick Snapshow Window. That should do it.
I've several windows set up to show all files and to view by names.
If you do show all files and view by name in a large directory, be
prepared to wait a while for the display to come up when you open it.

I don't think that works. You have to select Snapshot All to fix
the icons. as well as the window position and size. This won't work if all
the files don't have icons. If the directory has non-icon files and uses
the fake icons, those won't be fixed. You also must have the parent
directory open in Show Icon mode in order to shapshot a sub-directory into
View Text. I could not get a sub-directory to snapshot into View Text mode
unless the parent was in Show Icon mode. Don't know why, but it flat
wouldn't work for me.

I believe you are correct. I played around with it a bit after finishing
up on CIS and it only seems to work when the root directory on a partition
is set correctly.

That seemed to be my experience. I don't know why the system
doesn't want to snapshot a Veiw Text window unless its parent is a View
Icon window. I asked Andy Finkel about it, but didn't get an answer as to
how it should be done otherwise or if it was a system bug. I had set all
my windows to View Text, but ended up going back to View Icon mode because
it was such a hassle to reset a parent in order to change a sub-dir. I
would have liked to see the system work more like the Mac in this instance.

I, too, tried this. I found that the only way you can shapshot a
directory as show all is that the parent directory must be in show icon
mode or the snapshot won't take. So, you must open the parent in Show Icon
mode, then open the directory you want for Show All, then select View Text,
then select Snapshot All. Note that you put the window into View Text
mode. If you don't do that, then nothing will happen to snapshot the icons
because the icons for files without icons use a fake icon which isn't
actually there and, consequently, won't be snapshotted. Got it?
