#Help with ARC.EXE

Dear Sysop. Do you have any information that the program ARC.EXE in library 16
has a problem? I downloaded the autopilot program AP.LHA from library 9 (very
long program). I could not decompress it with LHARC.EXE which I had down
loaded a couple of years ago. The program ARCHLP.EXE recommended using ARC.EXE.
When I run it to decompress any program (ARC.EXE X ANYPROGRAM.LZH) it keeps
saying there are "bad headers" and portions of the program get skipped. I
reloaded ARC.EXE, and the copy does the same thing to all .LZH programs which
had been successfully decompressed before. Any advice would be sincerely
appreciated. Tony Russell

Download the file LHA138.RUN from Library 16 of this forum. This is a
newer version/replacement for your lharc program, and will work with both
.LZH and .LHA archives. It is what you want to un-archive AP.LHA.
Note that LHA138.RUN is a self-extracting archive. Just run it from
the CLI to extract the actual "lha" program and the documentation files.

you need to download LHA138.RUN to decompress AP.LHA. ARC.EXE will
only cope with those files that have a .ARC as part of the filename, not
those with either a .LZH or a .LHA extension. LHA138.RUN will cope with
both very nicely. Once you do have a copy of LHA138.RUN downloaded, copy
it to wherever you want it permanently, preferably using the shell, and
type LHA138.RUN. It will decompress itself into its component files. Use
the resulting LhArc file to decompress AP.LHA.
BTW, don't ditch ARC.EXE. It does have it's uses with some older files
out there.

Dear Brian, Thanks for the information on LHA138.RUN. I loaded it, let it
decompress, and used it to decompress the AP program. It worked very well.
