#Flyer Crashes

Following is happening when using the Toaster 3.94 with Flyer:
Monitor goes green and system crashes. I cannot reboot and the Amiga
will not come on-line for a few hours, even after repeated turning
on/off
of the computer. This has happened on three occassions:
Bringing Frozen images into TPaint and saving as Framestores.
Bringing in image sequences into lightwave (after 24 or 25 images)
Placing text on a framestore in the new TPaint.
Any ideas as to what the heck is happening. I am getting sick and tired of
letting the Amiga sit for two hours before it decides to boot back up. What
happens after the system crashes is that the screen on my 1084 goes green, and
the hard drive light comes on. When I turn the machine off and on again, the
hard drive light is on continously and nothing happens – nothing. The system
is dead for the next hour or two.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Perhaps the power supply is not quite up to the task. That's the only thing
that I can think of that would explain the two hour "cool down" time. You
could test this somewhat by using some additional cooling to accelerate the
cool down, like external fans or cold soaking outdoors.

I took the cover off the 4000 and the problem has not occured again. I had
spent hours trying to figure out what the heck was going on and never did it
occure to me that it may be a heat problem.
I now have a working Amiga 4000 – but I need to call the dealer and have him
put in a bigger fan or something cause I don't feel to comfortable with an open
cased computer laying around.

The fans on the 4000 are notoriously lame… check to see if yours is even
spinning. Taking the cover off ruins the whole forced air scheme of the
machine's design, but since it was already dysfunctional……

I'm assuming you're running on an Amiga 4000.
One precaution, but probably not a problem solver, is to check to see that
4000patch is in the WBStartup drawer.
On my demo unit, I noticed the green screen, but also a distinctively
flashing power light. It would flash eleven/twelve times and then pause,
before starting the cycle again. If you have the flashing power light,
then it seems to be exactly the same problem.
I opened the case and "touched/pushed" the ram simms under the Toaster
card. The system rebooted right away. However, when the problem occured
on my customer's 4000, it continued to occur, and now the system, after
replacing the Flyer card, degrades after 45 minutes, and becomes
unrebootable without a 20 minute wait. The mouse slows down, processing
crawls to a hault, and the system locks up.
Have your dealer try another Flyer card, if you can. It might help.

It appears to be a heat problem. I took the cover off and no problems what so
ever. In fact the system crashed just with workbench running last nite – so I
don't think it software/Flyer related.
But the open cover on the 4000 is not a practical option.
Thanks for the quick reply – I hope its just the heat and that I don't have to
put in a new flyer card. I guess I'll find out sooner or later.

I haven't seen any major software problems with the Flyer. Just annoying
crashes in TPaint and occassional glitches in project screen/playback.
Wish my problem was heat, but removing the case still doesn't solve the
problem.
