Hilary, Sounds like you must be Rendering instead of just saving the image your working with. You gotta be doing something to change the size. Use the Info button to check the size of your files. They shouldn't change unless your Rendering to another size or Scaling. Good luck, ….John

I may sound stupid John… but WHAT is "Rendering". Cannot see any buttons with that title. Where do I find the size in the file…. what file? I have been praying for a step by step procedure… from the IN of the image to the OUT… but nowhere can I find it. I can't even find an "ondisk" Tutorial. Is there another program which does the same sort of thing… WITH A MANUAL ? In which case I will junk the ImageMaster R/T. Thanks for your help effort… but it is way above my humble head. Hilary.

Hilary, Perhaps it will help if I walk you through a conversion using IM R/t. I am using rev 1.06, not the latest but it shouldn't be missing too much. First load IM R/t :^) Press File I/O buttton on Main screen. Press Load Image File button Find and select the file you wish to work with. This will load the image to the Primary frame buffer. You should see it, but IM doesn't use the overscan parts of the screen so there will be borders. Your image should still be the same size as before, this is just IMs display mode. Back at Main screen, Press the Info button. Then press Primary Image button, this will give you info on the file you loaded to the Primary Buffer. Check the size, It should be what you expect. Back at Main screen, Make sure the Entire Image selection button is selected (Solid blue button in the middle of the screen). Press the Process button. Press Filters button. Press the Low Pass button. Leave the defaults settings that should be 50% Effect, Horizontal and Vertical selected. Prees done button. This Effect may take a while depending on your h/w. Done button backs you up to the Main screen. Prees File I/O button. Press Save as 24-bit IFF/ILBM button. Name and save the image you've just created. Try to load the new file back into IM and check to see that the size didn't change. This could be tricky unless you just load in over the old Primary buffer. More on that later if you need :^) This file should load into Montage just fine and the only difference should be the effects of the Low Pass filter. The image should be a little softer. Hope this helps, Good luck, IM R/t is GREAT s/w but they always had Lowsy docs. Usually lots of good Help here, but it seems Ben may be busy supporting their Windows products :^( Ducking :^) ….John

John… you are a real joy! May the blessings of all belated video post-production folk… fall upon your noble head. The stuff you sent is just what I wanted. When I have finished this note to you, will print your instructions out. Tomorrow (Monday) will take the precious printout down to the studio, and go thru' your instructions. At the moment my status is Yellow Belt… but it is good to take up the defeat of the mysteries that the Black Belt crowd have built into the IM R/T, no doubt done to undermine the confidence of the voters and the USA economy in general <g>. With many thank yous…. Hilary.

Hilary, An additional tip or two: 1. In the File I/O panel, there is a button next to SAVE TYPE called SET SAVE SIZE. Entering that button, you can opt to maintain the current size or resize to a desired dimension. Back out from there, the Set Save Type button allows you to choose your image file formats. 2. The PRIMARY IMAGE is always the image you see. SECONDARY and BRUSH images are extra buffers added for additional images as they are loaded. When you jump from PRIMARY to SECONDARY (using the 's' key) the former SECONDARY image becomes the PRIMARY, and vice versa. As I said, the PRIMARY is ALWAYS the one you see. It took me a while to 'get' that, and once I did, many of the other philosophies behind IM's environment came into focus as well. 3. Give the online docs a chance, and spend a bit of time with the software. I use it daily, and I really love it. It's extrememly powerful, even though some of the simpler things, like image scaling, require extra steps (compared with ADPro or ImageFX). Other things like color keying and layering are handled quite nicely with IM R/T. For instance, keying a variance (not just a single RGB value) is very easy and the results are great. The only real bummer is the batch processing interface, which demands a few sidesteps into AREXX. Hope that helped. Good luck. Steve S.G. Bailey Image Dynamics – Chicago

Thanks to good friends like you and a few others that have taken the time and patience to educate me, I have managed both to load and save an image of the size I need. Going thru' all the buttons etc… is rather like trying to navigate a mine field. Hit the wring one and all sorts of funny things happen. I have printed out everything I could find in the program. What was greatly lacking was how to LOAD and SAVE an image. I would have thought that Black Belt would at least print one sheet of paper… titled "Getting Started" Perhaps their typewriter is busted. Again.. thanks, Hilary.

Hilary, I hope this gets you going with IM R/t. Glad to be a help :^) ….John

Blessings of the gods of Blackie Beltie be on your head… my dear John. I took the print out of your step-by-step instructions down to the studio yesterday. Powered up the Amiga, went to IM R/T…. then just followed your instructions… The program worked… from the input of an IFF24…. the little filtering bit… and the output in IFF24. Tested results on Toaster/Montage – and the screen was filled! I do hope that you will not get into trouble with the Black Belt crowd for divulging the secret. They are a lonely bunch. Had high hopes that the lack of any instructions would bring them lots of little messages on CIS… plus some new and novel complaints – together with exotic cuss words. Now I have got things at least going in the right direction, will take time to explore all the little buttons, green lights and gizmos within the program. The subject of their mysteries will keep both the Forum and CIS fully engaged for the remainder of the year. As Errol Flynn said to Lana Turner… "You made my day!" Hilary.

Take heart, Hilary… We DO get some exotic cuss words now and then… glad you got going. 🙂 And you know… if you hit the RIGHT buttons, IM R/t can do some amazing things. –Ben …via AutoPilot

Just replied to the good Kermit. Found that he was NOT in Sales with the Black Belters… but was a Technical Type. What a terrible insult I gave him! Also told him (and am telling you) that there is an article in the current issue of "TV TECHNOLOGY" – a trade mag', which highly lauds the ImageMaster, but warns you NEVER to try the program without buying the videos. I am urging Kermit to write a little Tutorial program, so that folk like the dim me… will take some courage to even start the program. I do expect the sellers of the videos to bribe Kermit NOT to do this. If that takes place, then perhaps Kermit will share some of the loot, and we then all can go on a Caribbean cruise, with interludes of "Learning ImageMaster" taking place in one of the well stocked bars. Hilary.

Kermit? <confused look> The only Kermit I know is Kermit Woodall, who is part of Nova Design, who make ImageFX… the only competitor to Imagemaster R/t on the Amiga (I know some people think Adpro was, when it was still decently supported, but they were wrong then and they're still wrong. 🙂 Anyway, Kermit's likely to be as surprised at your suggestion as I was. 🙂 –Ben …via AutoPilot

Sorry… (very ashamed look).. I must have been confused when I received a note from the good Kermit, telling me he had designed something or other. As ImageMaster is/was very much on my mind… presumed that he had designed it, and was therefore to blame. Did you see the nice write up of YOUR program in "TV Technology" ? Hilary.

Hilary, Glad to hear you got things going. I'm sure you'll soon be morphing and writing custom AREXX scripts before you know it. You can be kinda Ornry can't ya??? :^) I like that ;^) We always need fresh blood in these fori, been kinda slow around here lately. Exscuse me, my eye sight is starting to blurrrrrr %) ….John

Re: Fresh blood in the Forum…. your remark. My blood is not very fresh… in fact 76 years old and may need a new filter fairly soon – or perhaps a blood change. At the moment the pump seems OK. After so many years in industry (R&D)… being polite, smiling at folk I despise, and generally being a plastic replica of my inner self, I will try and be true to my real self for these few last remaing years. I now try to be rude when that is necessary, but with a bright smile. As my birth and education took place in England, I suppose I have inherited the rather queer humor which abounds there. Perhaps I have grown a little cynical… that has no doubt come about by watching the "Funny Show"… subtitled "Government"… in DC. If there is such a thing as reincarnation… and one has a choice, you will see me as: A black lobbyist, with high disabilities, contacts with major industries, lots of politician blackmail info', daily Whitehouse lunches, 2 private jets, the key to the Playboy Mansion, 3 stretched limo's, direct route to the nice folk in Columbia,… and just perhaps … the insight about how to operate ImageMaster until I have run out of complaints! I really not to bad… once you get by my bodygiards. Hilary.

Hilary, I bet your bloods as fresh as the next guys ;^) I work with mostly East Coasters so I know all about Sick Humor :^() I've grown very cynical, sarcastic and opinionated myself. I always thought it was cause of my extreme closeness with my Amigas. ….John

Yes… if you are close to the lamented Amiga, you were probably born with a screwdriver in hand. When mine feels neglected it comes up with something which makes me open the lid. Lonely little beast. Back to the dratted IM R/T. I have been finding little bits of information in various corners of the software. It is as if the programmers had put a massive volume into a shredder and then sprinkled the tiny bits liberally within the software. Most certainly they win any competition for "shredded instructions". If the Germans had used this system of "codes and cyphers" – instead of their Enigma machine, we would still be fighting WW.II. As soon as I find a pearl of wisdom, I print it out. Slowly the extent of the program is taking some sort of shape. Have also fiddled with some of the little buttons. Derlighted to find that all sorts of queer things happen. Some unpredictably….. Hilary.

Geeez… I was in here yesterday, answering – saturday – and I'm in here today answering – sunday – but YOU beat me to an explicit answer. For which I thank you, but that's not the same as not being here! <grin> –Ben …via AutoPilot

I know. 🙂 No problem. Vent away. I'll speak up when I need to. It's tough times for all of us Amiga-lovers. –Ben …via AutoPilot
