Hi, I've been asked to relay the following question verbatim:
"I need to find out if it is possible to write to a PC Syquest drive that is
formatted to a Mac. Is it possible to use a program like "Mac-In-Dos" to
write to a PC Syquest drive that can be read by a Mac? I am trying to find a
way to convert a lot of PC images to Max without having to obtain a Mac and a
Mac Syquest drive to put on our network. Unfortunately, using a modem is not
feasible because there is a large number of files."

I've recently used a Mac formatted Syquest disk in my PC to get some PICT
images off of. They copied off of the Mac disk just fine… I'm not yet sure
of writing files from the PC to the Mac disk will be able to be read on the
other end…
You might want to check out the Syquest BBS – I was told they may have some
utilities that make sure the two platforms interoperate.
Let me know what you find – I was hoping when I bought the Syquest to do just
what you're hoping for – trading of information without the purchase of both
systems.

I don't have any experience with Mac-in-DOS or its competitor (can't recall
name right now). I've heard of problems with hard coded SCSI ID limitations and
such with one or more of those products. Can these products format a Syquest
for a Mac?
We used AccessPC on our Macs until we connected them to our LAN. AccessPC
allows the Mac to mount PC floppies and Syquests directly on the desktop. You
can setup automatic Filetype/Extension mapping and AccessPC will allow the Mac
to do a DOS format. It works great and the use is nearly transparent to the
user.
I believe that AccessPC is around $80 and available from most Mac mail order
houses. Insignia Solutions is the vendor 415.694.7600.

We've been using Access PC for the Mac to read DOS Syquest disks, but switching
to Mac-In-DOS has made our lives a whole lot simpler.
With Mac-In-DOS we can give Syquests to any Mac user, not just the ones who
have Access PC. Access PC was also difficult to set up on the Power Mac — we
had to temporarily disable a bunch of stuff just to get it running.
