Let me try and decode the question. First, the CDK R2 will work with any
Windows 3.1
or Windows NT compatible graphics card. If you can run Windows (either flavor)
in 256
color mode then you are set. The Rendermorphics driver shipped with CDK has
additional
capabilities and I suggest you contant them for more information about which
graphics
boards they are compatible with.
We have no direct support for the Logitech Space Controller (I think that is
what you
are talking about). The task of writing a sensor driver for any device is not
that difficult,
but knowledge of the CDK class structure is a must.
The headmounts are a different story. These devices are usually directly
connected to
the computers main display or to a secondary graphics card.. CDK really does
not have any direct support for these mainly because this issue is strictly on
the
hardware side. Connecting these NTSC devices to a Windows display is possible.

the space controller i was refering to was the spacetec one this would control
a wand like object in the virtual world (as would the forte cyberpuck supplied
with the vfx-1 head mounted display). i was trying to work out if the space
controller & vitual i.o i-glasses (with head tracking) would allow greater
interaction in cyberspace versus forte vfx-1 & cyberpuck.
also do you have any recommendations for me on motherboards. i
currently have an isa board with a 80486dx. i am looking at upgrading to a
pentium 90 with a pci motherboard and isa slots.

We use the SpaceController as a flying device or a Wand (or both) in our CDK
app. It works great. It is a fun device but takes a little while to master how
to fly with it if you don't offer 'training wheels'. We found that if you offer
a mode where the dominant DOF overrides all others, folks can learn how to use
it at the beginning, then they can take off the 'training wheels' to fly all 6
DOF simultaneously as their skill improves. Children seem to pick it up faster
than adults for some reason. Besides the head of engineering at Spactec, my 9
year old is the best flyer I know on the SpaceController with all 6DOFs acitve.
We already have a CDK sensor built for this device using CDK Rel1 and are ready
to implement it in Rel 2 under windows, however, Spactec is still finishing up
the development library for Visual C++, so we are waiting on them. They say any
day now…. Should be soon.
If we can be of help, let us know. It will be included with our other tools
available to CDK developers.
