#Spilled Juice on MB

HELP! My 3 yr old spilled grape juice on one of my motherboards. There was
no power connected. What is the safest possible method for cleaning up
this mess, and what are the odds that something has been damaged? The
juice got on the Agnus, the 68000, down into the accelerator slot, and ran
all the way to the back of the motherboard.
I would remove it. Then let it soak in alcohol! Remove and let dry. If it were
me, you understand.
Also, wait for others to respond.

Garry,
Water then alcohol. Water to remove the sugar (which alcohol won't
disolve) and then alcohol to remove the water. Hot water is ok…in fact, I'd
reccomend the hottest tap water you've got…but NOT boiling water!
Once you've done that….shake off as much water as you can, then wash
(pour) alcohol over it. Don't use rubbing alcohol…it's usually got some oils
in it, isopropal alcohol should be fine. That should remove the rest of the
water from the board. I'd also get a can of compressed air (available at a
photo supply shop) and use it to make sure the water is out of the sockets.
That should take care of things for you.

Sounds good. Would you believe I probably still have Hewlett Packard's
detailed instructions on cleaning circuit boards in a dishwasher (temp,
soap solutions, cycles)? That is how most repair shops actaully do it.

Thanks – I'll try it. I think I should get filtered water first, as the
stuff out of the tap here has all kinds of minerals in it.

I wouldn't go to the expense of bottled water. Don't forget, you'll
need enough to disolve the sugar that's dried on the board…it other words,
let it sit under the hot water tap for a bit.
Also, since you're not going to let the water dry on the motherboard,
you're going to rinse it off with alcohol…disolved minerals won't matter
unless they react with gold (highly unlikely <grin>) or tin (on component
leads).
