Did you visit the Avid and BPFORUM forums? You would have seen me blasting MSP
as a piece of junk if you had… 🙂
MSP 3.0 and 3.1 software were so extremely buggy that I simply could not
produce anything useful. 3.1 was supposed to be a bug-fix release, yet I found
4 distinct ways to crash it in the first 3 hours of using it… 🙁
I've now upgraded to MC 1000 (not yet working though), which I hope will solve
the problems. Avid management has been _very_ good about responding to my
needs, once I got past the tech support staff and reached the management folks
that could do anything about it.

I am not an editor, but our Avid MSP system is trash. We've been looking at
the Cube, and I spent close to 6 hours on it. It's a dream. It never crashed,
no rendering of DVE effects, or transitions, or audio mixes, or cg overlays, or
most anything! VERY responsive, VERY productive, and totally worth it's weight
in gold. And I do graphics.. our editors are sure to rave even more about it.
Compression looked very nice (a little soft, instead of Avid's blockyness).
New version coming out at NAB, and a new TurboCube with better compression
ratio's, and other cool stuff.

If you had visited the BPFORUM or Avid's forums here on CIS a month or two ago,
you would have seen me screaming at the top of my lungs the same thing. 🙂
I looked at alternatives, and decided on upgrading to a Composer 1000. I still
like Avid's software better than any other I have seen — it was just that the
MSP software was so buggy that it was unusable for me.
FWIW, I have had several heart-to-heart talks with Avid senior management, and
I believe they are aware of the problems and have taken steps in the past
couple months to correct them. Not much consolation if you wasted a lot of
time in the past, but you might consider that fact if spending for a Cube would
dent your wallet as much as it would mine. 🙂
BTW, MC1000 also has real-time 2D effects. You have to go the MC8000 to get
real-time 3D effects though. And you could upgrade your MSP to MC1000 for a
_lot_ less than dumping it in the trash (as I threatened to do!) and buying
something else.
