I am interested in the Future Video 3300 edit controller for windows. Does ayone have any experience with this edit controller? I would like to know if the edit decision list is easy to create and if the edits remain fairly accurate without time code.

Ken, Overall I find the Future Video product to be very much an editors editor. Edits are easy and quick to perform and as accurate as your hardware allows for. Don't look for fancyness, but for a professional/serious hobbiest, editing is quick and easy with the Future Video interface. IMHO. -John

I have V-Station 3300. and am very satisfied with a/b and a/x roll edits. Though I do use RC time code on one of my source decks and am not seeking frame accurate editing, I seem to have no problems with long (90+) scene EDLs which I assemble edit automatically. With the non time code deck there is some error but never more than 0.5+/- secs as one gets to the end of a 2 hr. tape. I'm not a pro but a serious hobbyist. Help from the firm is a strong 4+ for FutureVideo. Herb

PMJI, I'm just getting started with video editing. What is your hardware setup? What other software do you use along with V-Station 3300? Is there a way to use an IR-only controlled recording deck (S-VHS Mitsu U-82) with this controller? You mention customer support. I don't see a forum for FutureVideo. How do you get support? Phone only? Thanks. -jts

> What is your hardware setup? What other software do you use along with V-Station 3300? As source decks I use Sony EVS 7000 and EVS 3000. As Record deck I use a Panasonic 1970. I also use Videonics MX-1 mixer and Videonics TitleMaker 2000. Sometimes I use a Sony color corrector (I think XVC900). The software is FutureVideo's V-Station for Windows. There is a DOS version and a Mac version. The DOS version I simply didn't get along with easily and I know nothing of the Mac version. I've use several Windows computers from a 386 33MHz to a 66 MHz Pentium and it seems to make no difference that I can see. I even loaded onto a friend's lap-top with a monochrome screen and… it runs and I could edit but it wasn't so easy for me. > Is there a way to use an IR-only controlled recording deck (S-VHS Mitsu U-82) with this controller? If there is I don't know about it. >You mention customer support. I don't see a forum for FutureVideo. How do you get support? Phone only? Stuart C. Brenner 73051,2024 seems sometimes to monitor the Consumer Electronics Video forum in the Camcorder and Editing section. But, I usually call and they take all the time in the world with you. If you need their number let me know. What I don't like is that the way things are now with the software you can only trigger the MX-1 and nothing else. Most of the time this is more than enough, but it would seem more elegant to be able to control many of the Videonics Mixer functions as the program controls the Panasonic Mixers. I'll bet that now that Videonics is coming out with their own editor, which may not have all the PC EDL (Edit Decision List) which is like a script of of scenes and when they are to start and stop and what kind of transitions occur between scenes and the like. That's very helpful info to me. > you can only trigger the MX-1 and nothing else Moe asked one of the FutureVideo people this when they told me the V-Station would be a good solution if I wanted a PC based edit controller to use with the MX-1. At the time Moe only knew of the GPI not a cutomized interface that you long for. I'm not sure I'd gain anything over Video Director if the V-Station cannot talk to the MX-1. Also I'd need to change recorddecks and this doesn't seem to be a compelling reason to me. > As source decks I use Sony EVS 7000 and EVS 3000. As Record deck I use a > Panasonic 1970. Today I'd by the 7000 and 1970 just like you have. How do you like them. Would the Sony 1000 be as good as the 1970 or not? For simple a/b roll and maybe as a recording deck would a Sony Hi8 100 get the job done or would it's lack of RCTC be a bad deal? However what I'm thinking is, how about 7000 as source for RCTC then 100 as record. Gives a Hi8 master. Then put the master into the 7000 and audio dup with the PCM hifi stereo track. Now copy this to S-VHS or VHS for distribution. Thanks. -jts

I have a Future Video 3300 and find it quite easy to compose EDL's with it. It's accuracy depends on the VCR's used. Without time code it reads the control track, and this is fairly accurate. Nothing beats time code, however.
