Anyone help me on this one? I drew a shape resembling steps in the 2D shaper and then brought them into the 3D lofter via Deform/Fit command. I then brought in a simple square from the shaper to loft along the path and generated the new path. When I went to create the object (which should have looked like a Pyramid with steps), I got the mesh acting funny on each step of the path. I looked in the tutorial and the 3DS bible ("Inside 3D Studio"), but could not find any solution. For the time being I just brought in the step shape and lofted it across a square path, it does the trick but I sure would like to know it works with the Fit command. If anyone has a solution, I would greatly appreciate it. I am sure I will be kicking myself in the head when the solution is brought to my attention. Thanx in Advance, pHred

Hard to tell what the problem is without actually seeing the project. However, I'm guessing that your Fit shape (being stair steps) has horizontal lines. These cause problems because they send an ambiguous message to the Lofter, which may or may not treat them as undercuts. If this is the case, you can fix things by moving one of the vertices for each horizontal line slightly so that the line is diagonal. Note the word "slightly." You just need to adjust the vertex a bit so it's not aligned with the other end of the line. If this doesn't do it for you, you can send a .prj file for Jonas to take a look at. – Jack

Jack, thanx for the tip. You were right about the horizontal lines. However "slighty" is always too much and editing in the 3D Editor is still required. Much appreciated, pHred

<<When I went to create the object (which should have looked like a Pyramid with steps), I got the mesh acting funny on each step of the path.>> Create a side profile of the "stepped pyramid" in the 2D Shaper then import it into the 3D Lofter. Then create a Surface of Revolution with only 4 vertices. This should create a square path. Aligh the stepped shape to the left or right depending on which side is flat, then loft the object with "Weld" and "Contour" on and "Path Detail" set to Low. You should then have your "stepped pyramid". DaviD "Pinnacle pyramid climbing" GouID
