#More XGA Problems?

We have not seen these problems with the XGA. Call the people at Panacea about the problem… they're very familiar with it and you could ask them to reproduce your lockups. If they can, then it's an XGA problem. If we had an XGA board, we could do something about it. I should try to find one somewhere… – G

Thanks again. It's great to be able to communicate with you guys directly. "Value Added" Big Time!

The problem you are seeing is caused, at least as it was explained to me, by 3DS looking for VGA sync signals. Since an XGA board when running in an XGA doesn't produce any of these signals (some TIGA boards exhibit the same problem), 3DS hangs while waiting forever for the sync signal. I'm told that this has been fixed with 3DS 2.0, but I haven't verified it yet. The only workaround to the problem is to use VGA for display and the XGA for rendering or to simply avoid the things that cause hangs. It sounds like you've found most of them so far. Gary, Jake reported the XGA hanging problem to Jim Byers at Autodesk, and Jim found and fixed the problem. I think that 3DS waits forever for a VGA vertical blanking signal. This was around CADCamp time frame. You might want to make sure that it made it into 2.0. Brad

I have already set the wheels in motion to have someone start testing with an XGA system. I will call Jim Byers tomorrow as well. It sounds like it may already be dealt with. – G

Thanks guys. It turns out that I can do just what Brad recommended, develop the animation in VGA and then render it in XGA.
