#Genlock and ntsc output

Greg, maybe you can help me out. I'm trying to get some of the animations in
DL15 (I think) to run on my 500. There is one called Boinm that I tried to
run. DL'ed it and MOVIE, ran it according to the instructions. Screen goes
black, disk runs (seems like it's loading the data) and then I just go back
to the desktop. Any hints? Do you know what animations _do_ run in a 512K
machine?

Mark,
I believe that with the Movie program, you have to have your STACK set
to at least 16k. You might check that out. If you are running the animation
from WorkBench it will set the stack for you, I believe. Not sure if the one
you dl'd will run in 512K, but if it requires more than 512k it is generally
posted in the description of the file in the Data Library.

I was running it from the Workbench, and it said that it would work in 512K.

Mark, be sure that your stack is set to at LEAST 16000. Also, be sure to use
the newer MOVIE player.
Forgive the delay in my response….I'm trying to finish up an 8 sec anim.
So far about 5 seconds have been rendered. Get this…..any ONE part of it
(there are 11 parts) require at LEAST 1.5 to 2 megs to run! GAK! 🙂

You don't need to set the stack from the workbench, do you? I am using the
newest movie program.
Any good upgrades for a 500<grin>?

Mark, from WB you don't need to…..but it an't hurt to try it from CLI with
a stack of 16000! <grin> Seriously, try it from CLI as suggested above, if
it doesn't work try it with nothing else loaded. Since I have a 2000 with
5Megs it's a bit difficult to test it in 512K. Please let me know the
results for future reference. -Thanks

Dear Mark (Practical Solutions, etc. etc)
I would like to raise my battered and bleeding hand to offer a few
suggestions for the NTSC Encoder. I bought two A2000's for installation
in offices before I found out that not only didn't the stupid things have
NTSC output, all the suppliers either didn't have marketable models or
recalled them.
It would be just terribly nice if the encoder was a board that fit in
one of the expansion slots. One of the A2000's is in an office that
doesn't have enough room to change your mind in. External boxes are
nice but they take up room.
I too, am a techie and would REALLY like to have controls over Sync
level, lum level, chroma level, burst level and phase, Either I or Q level
, and Quadriture.
I clipped the resistor out of the encoder in the A1000 and the
output was painfully close to broadcast accurate. All I needed was
a few more knobs……….

What resistor did you clip? I don't suspect that's all it would take on the
1000's encoder.
We probably won't have too many controls, folks like yourself can use them
but others abuse them if you know what I mean. Unless you want us to make one
for $200, then we don't have to sell as many<grin>.
We will consider a board for the 2000, as well as a external box. Thanks a
bunch for your input.

Dear Mark, et.al. (you remember Al?)
In their supposidly infinite wisdom, Amiga chose to install the graphics
chip that does NTSC output in the A1000 with a resistor across the two
pins that determine modulation quadriture. As a result, if you chose
to display your graphic on a "TV" or monitor that did the same thing,
over half of the screen came out flesh tones. I'm doing this on line
so the english doesn't always work. Let me hit that again. The resistor
in the modulator circuit pushed the vectors in such a manor that many
shades of red and yellow came out flesh tones. There are a LOT of
TV's out there that do the same thing. By the time you sloshed through
both of these errors, you had almost no "Q" modulation. EVERYTHING came
out either flesh tone, or cyan. If you clip the resistor out of the
circuit, (no further adjustments necessary) the vectors can be made to
hit the 2% boxes of a vectorscope. The other problems I talked about
are vid levels and chroma levels, both of which are off…but not THAT
much. If you want to know more about that resistor, please do it
via E-Mail and I'll be tickled pink (8B, 8G, 16R) to tell you all
about it. It's in my files somewhere.

I see what you mean. It does do that! We designed the VideoKey to be accurate

I missed the beginning of this thread – will your device take the RGB output
from the CBM Genlock and convert it to a decent composite signal?
If so, when (and how) can I get one?

Thanks for the interest. It will take any Amiga RGB output and convert it to
a nice NTSC signal.
The outputs from most Genlocks are composite video; can't do much to help
that.
