CINHAL.LZH

To anyone who cares: The pic CINHAL.LZH is an image originally uploaded
into the IBM Graphics Forum. From reports I've received, the original BBS
logo has been removed and re-upped to here as an 'original' scan. As the
originator of the scan, I don't mind the image reappearing elsewhere, but
at least you could have the courtesy to leave the image as you found it and
not try to take credit for it yourself. I guess you Amiga folks can't come
up with original scans on your own, so you are forced to play make-believe.

How utterly stupid of you to blame all of Amiga-dom for the actions of one
person who stole your image… There's plenty of Amiga-born images that
end up without credit of author or source computer on the PC.
True…but I can't be concerned with the ills of the world, just this case.
Pardon me for being rude, but it's people like you that cause one of the
"ills of the world" that I'm sure you're familiar with… prejudice and
related "isms" that cause people to make large-scale slurs against a group
simply because they don't like what one member of that group did. Your
message made my day.
You would accuse this entire forum because one person did something of
which you disapprove? How absurd!

No, but from what I've been told, this type of thing is rampant in both
directions If I don't bring it to youur attention, how would you know the
image didn't originate with the uploader in this forum? I see the same
thing happen in the IBM area, and there are some BBS's know for it. I am
addressing only one individual at this point, but a public airing has more
affect than a private Email message.
Since it is just a digitized image, I cannot see why you are so excited
about it. Anyone can point a Digiview camera at a picture and digitize it!
No big deal. Now the person who made the picture in the first place might
have cause to complain, but how can you object to someone using something
you just digitized?
……Betty
Maybe you should check your eye sight then go over to the Library section
and read the description of that file. It says "converted from a GIF file".
I didnt see anywhere where it said it was an original. Besides, any moron
can digitize a picture from a perfume ad like you say you did. I dont see
you crediting the original photographer of that picture! Its funny how many
original Amiga pictures make it over to the Pee Cee platform, and you dont
see us running over to the IBM forums and crying about it cause we dont
recieve credit for them. Thats because "we" have been digitizing quality
images on our machines long before you even considered (or Pee Cee's were
capable of) digitizing on a PC. Oh well, I guess you great PC owners cant
handle the fact that we do it better for less money.
CHOW!

Someone took a bit of effort to post the file in question. To the point of
removing the BBS logo, which is my point. I'd love to have the images
spread far and wide, but the logo should remain intact and, if not, the
text description should give credit for the origin of the scan.
Then, of course, there are those of us who DESPISE logos on graphics. I
mean, what's the point? All it does it make it impossible to use teh image
for anything more than looking at on your computer. You can't use the
stuff for video work, etc. It seriously reduces the worth of the CI$
libraries, and is generally a pain.
Actually, that's not all that uncommon an occurance, and most of the time
is not deliberate at all. The reason for this is the default resolution
differences between the Amiga and the IBM. On an IBM VGA, there are either
340 or 480 lines of resolution typically displayed, whereas on the Amiga
there are typically only 200 or 400 lines displayed (more on PAL machines
and/or if overscan is used…).
So when an IBM VGA image is converted to the Amiga, it is usually cropped
a bit at the top, bottom, or both. (Most likely the bottom.) Since credit
info like you mentioned usually falls into these areas, it's very likely to
be lost in the translation.
The same thing applies the other way around, mind you, with Amiga images
going to IBM EGA format, which only has 350 lines, or when an Amiga
overscanned image gets converted.
As a final note, regarding your comment about Amiga folks not coming up
with original scans of our own… Frankly, I've seen a huge number of
Amiga generated scans uploaded (most of the time WITHOUT credit) to the IBM
forums. I see very few IBM scans going the other way. I think that speaks
very nicely for itself…

Thanks…at last a rational explanation without name calling. I think my
point has been made, which is that credit should be given to the originator
of the scan, either in the text description or by leaving the logo intact.
In my early days of BBSing I uploaded a numberr of files from different
sources but always left the logo intact or gave credit to the originator.
If that courtesy could be followed by everyone (in both directions) we'd
all be better off. Thanks again.
Maybe I missed something, but aren't we talking about a scan of an
advertisement? Why are you so worried about taking credit for something
you didn't really create, or that you probably don't have the right to
redistribute? Sure, you might be a talented scanner, but what about
Cindy's photographer? Or the perfume she was pushing? What matters more,
the rights of these people, or your rights? Are you simply usurping this
image to advertise your BBS? Maybe you should send Halston a check.
