Has anybody had any luck getting CDTV titles to work on a CD-ROM connected to an A2000 using the CDROM-FS software?! I've tried some of the Xiphias titles (dictionary & time line) with no luck. It fails when it can't find a library called the bookmark.library. Are these libraries built into the CDTV rom and are they avaible elsewhere?

With the CDTV, most programs are booted(?) from the CD… I think. If it isn't a Library located inside the CDTV's ROMs, then try the assign command. You will probably have to search the CD for the correct Library path. Ron.

I've tried assinging all the system directories to the CD with no luck. Just have to keep trying I guess.

Which controller card are you using and which CDRom player. I have a Toshiba XM3201B and GVP series II and cant even get an icon for for the XIPHAS stuff. I am able to play some music CDs with the pr ogram titled CDDACtrl which is part of the CDRomsFS software. DA

I'm using the same setup as you, with a GVP Combo board. The Xiphias dictionary disk shows an icon for a script file but won't run. I've tried assigning all the system directories to the CD but still no go. A search of the CD's system files doesn't reveal any libraries, devices or handlers that don't appear on my harddrive, which leads me to believe that the CDTV must have some code in ROM that the disks look for. Oh well I'll keep mucking with it, who knows?!

Paul, I am running CDTV titles on my Xetec CD-Rom drive with virtually no problems. Xetec sells their software as a separate software product. This may work for you. ———————————————-Don- via Whap!

Thanks for the tip. I'll look into it.

Paul, The xiphias products dont need the bookmark device, dont know why you would get an error about them. You should be able to run them from the icon but i recall there were some minor problems with some of the scripts. You should be able to run them from the command line. It's been a while since i worked on them but i think if you use a shell and cd to the cdrom top level and type 'ahdict' or 'ahd' the program should run. let me know what happens, as i wrote the AH Dictionary program for Xiphias (also did the Grolier Encyclopedia and the database system that runs the timetable and cookbook products). Jerry: Is there any way to get the updated discs? (I'm assuming that there are updated discs) for the CD-ROMs that had problems with the scripts? I have the AHDictionary, and the Grolier disc, and neither will work with WB 2.04. -Mike Schiller In sunny Fort Lauderdale

Jerry, Just as a point of info I am also running 2.04. Would this make a difference?

Ahh, there is the big problem at present, WB 2.04. This was discovered long after the basic 5 titles shipped. It has to do with some odditity in the way images and screens are handled. I forget the details. AHD has not been updated since early '91. The current TToH titles will work with WB2.04. I'm not sure if CBM has updated Grolier disks in distribution. There is a completely new version in development, so probably not. This problem is NOT fixed by changing the scripts or running the apps from a cmd line. Sorry. It requires a minor mod to the code, but X cant afford to have us update the execs for an online update. Unfortunately, there have been LOTS of ancillary changes to some of the product databases for the newer TToH products, so the updated TToH apps wont necessarily help people with older disks. Have you registered your disks? That gets you update notices from Xiphias. There is a chance we might get an AHD + grolier code update if enough people ask (call or write Xiphias directly, please 😎 I'm real sorry about this problem. Esp since both the titles you own (AHD & Grolier) are the ones i wrote. Jerry Isdale i.e.: Isdale Engineering

Jerry, Thanks for the info, I'll give it another try and let you know how I make out. I was trying to run them by executing the startup-sequence after I had assigned over the system directories. One of the programs in the SS is looking for that bookmark lib I can't recall what one. (RMTM or CDTVprefs I think) Thanks again.
