Best Encyclopedia?

I'm looking for the best CD-ROM Encyclopedia. By best I mean most complete
one aimed at an adult audience, similar to the Encyclopaedia Britannica.
What is your suggestion?
Hope you'll post it when you find what you are looking for. I've ordered
the compton multimedia due tomorrow at my dealer. Sure hope it's "real".

I have the Compton Encyclopedia, and am impressd. Sure, the articles
are a little abbreviated compared to Brittanica, but the convenience and
the multimedia features make up for it. It's neat to be able to just
type-in any subject and get the info on it.
A general comment: The Compton Encyclopedia came with my Multimedia
Upgrade kit; I purchased the DeLorme STREET ATLAS U.S.A.. Both of these
CD ROMS realize the potential of this medium. Beware of being to hasty in
your software purchases though…I bought The Software Works WORLD ATLAS
and was disappointed. W.A. wasn't nearly as detailed as I thought it would
be. They could have released this program on a couple of floppies.

Has anyone tried the Grolier Encyclopedia? Rex sells for $75 ($175 w/
sound).

I've got the Software Toolworks Encyclopedia, which is actually Grolier's.
I got the shock of my life a few weeks ago. My daughter was playing
"Mixed-Up Mother Goose", and had the auxillary speakers plugged into the
CD-ROM drive. A little later, I was lookung up something about whales on
the STWE, and happened to pick the "picture" option on the baleen
whales…out came a whale song on the speakers! I had no idea that there
was sound on that disc!
My favorate "encyclopedia" is Magazine Rack by Information Access. It has
fulltext of *a full year's contents* of 300 publications on a single disk!
This disc is so useful that I can't say enough about it! BUY IT!

Windows) for sale. Brand new, includes Reg. Card. Please contact me if

Software Toolworks DID release the World Atlas on a couple of floppies. I
got the CD with my DAK CDROM drive and was really disappointed with these
two discs. The rest of the DAK stuff was pretty good.

I had it on floppies. It came on 19 disks and staked out several megs of
hard drive space. I was pleased to switch to the CD version so I could
recycle the hard disk space.
OTOH, now that they're doing a CD, it would be nice to see them take better
advantage of the 600 MB they have available.
