Does the Firecracker (2 meg version) work with the 3000? If so, what kind of monitor do I need to support it? Will my IBM Samsung SVGA monitor work? Loyd

Don't know about 3000 compatibility (though I have every reason to believe it would work), but an SVGA monitor will NOT work. The Firecracker runs at the NTSC scan rate; therefore, your Amiga monitor would work (and the Firecracker has provisions for overlaying the Amiga display over the Firecracker output and routing *both* to your monitor). However, the output of the Firecracker is a much better signal than can be done justice on an Amiga monitor, and a higher quality analog RGB monitor would be desirable. Pete

I,ve been running the firecracker board in a 3000 for almost a year now, no problems other than it's a tight squeeze to physicaly fit the board in. -David

Thanks. Yeah, I couldn't think of any reason why it SOULDN'T work; but I don't own a 3000. Appreciate the confirmation. Pete

When I installed a Firecracker in a 3000, I had to take the metal bracket off and cut a new one. The original kept the card from going all the way into the socket. Nice picture though….. -Jim

Steve, I currently use a 2 meg firecracker with my 3000. I have the 3000 using the 1950 monitor and the firecracker using my old 1080 monitor. The images on the 1080 are incredible.

Loyd, re what monitor to use with the FireCracker24. The FR24 output is RGB, just like the regular Amiga output (only higher color & resolution of course 🙂 …. so you need a monitor that will sync at the 15.75mhz rate of the standard amiga RGB port. I use my 1084 monitor just fine. If you go for a VGA type monitor (ie. multiscan) then it will need to scan down to the 15.75mhz range of the amiga to work. You cannot use a strait VGA monitor (13.5mhz) or such with it. Monitor must work at the 15.75mhz range. If your monitor works with your regular amiga RGB output (not a flickerfree deinterlacer output) then you're ok, otherwise not. Impulse told me that the FR24 would work in the A3000 when I asked them once. I don't use it in one, nor know of anyone who is, however. Maybe some A3000/FR24 owner can verify? –jp–seattle–

John, A friend of mine got a Firecracker for his 3000 about 2 weeks ago. No problems at all other than it didn't come with ANY software. Just a card to send in for the latest version of the paint package. Kinda dumb. But…the output is soooo neat. And rendering from an Imagine object is neat in that it actually will render the object as a brush which you can manipulate just like in D-Paint. I'm jealous. I want one:-). Well, I guess any 24 bit board would be good but it's what I can afford. So if only someone would buy my genlock:-) >>>>>Skip( SKP Graphics )<<<<<

The paint program 'Light24' is ok, but I still find myself going back to Black Belt's IMF/c for most painting and such. The main thing that Light24 has going for it is that it's more like the paint progs one is 'used' to. But after working with IMF/c awhile, you get used to it pretty quick. I'd strongly recommend that you take a look at IMF/c if you haven't already. What genlock are you selling? –jp–seattle–

John, I noticed the same thing about using IM. Wasn't crazy about the interface at first but after awhile you get used to it. I'm trying to talk a friend of mine into getting IM/FC so I can see it:-). It sure would be nice to work on 24 bit images in real time if that is indeed what that version allows you to do. The genlock is a SuperGen. Latest version (works with the 3000). I thought I really wanted one but decided I guess I wasn't ready. I really should get a laser printer first. Then the 24 bit display board. Anyway, I was asking $465.00 for the SuperGen but would take offers. At the moment, 2 guys from our user group seem interested but who knows. Its virtually brand new. I only took it out to look at it:-). Someone else did try it though for a day or two. >>>>>Skip( SKP Graphics )<<<<<

If you purchased a FireCracker24, I can guarantee that the Im/Fc software will blow you away. Seeing the results in true 24bit, as well as the speed of the redisplay, is just something to behold. The Im/Fc version of ImageMaster uses the FR24 display for output, so all paint/processing, etc actions take place directly on it (it uses the amiga screen overlay feature of the FR24). Will display in any of the four modes (lores, med-res, med-high res, hi-res) too. You'd love it. Is this the 'non SVHS' genlock? External? Thanks…. –jp–seattle–

John, Oh…man….I'm messing up the place with drool:-). That good, eh? I know the output looks great but playing with IM on it gotta be wild. Im is really neat but ham just doesn't make it after you see a real 24bit display:-) According to a feature chart,"the genlock will lock to non-time base corrected Helical scan VTR's including 1/2" Beta,VHS,8mm,one-inch and U-matic. Supergen will also work with S-VHS equipment using composit outputs and inputs, and with sync generators (blacl-burst). Thats their wording. A lot of it's greek to me:-). I've never used it and really hate to sell it but I'll get better use out of a Firecracker at this time. If I need the genlocking capability, an associate has one and nows how to use it. >>>>>Skip( SKP Graphics )<<<<<

John can you tell me if the FR24 will work on a 15.625khz monitor? Charlie – A Whapper! from Holland

Yes, It will work. Same sync rate as normal Amiga video output. ….Mark Sterling 74335,1677

What's 15.625khz? Is that the Amiga 1084 monitor? If so, then the answer is yes, cause that's what I use with my FR24. You're from Holland though? I don't know about FR24 and PAL, if that's what you mean. Check with Impulse for that info. TTFN –jp–seattle–

Charlie, dunno, but the FC24 will run on a 15.750KHz monitor.
