#Still Won't Work
7 messages in this thread
Chuck,
I really appreciate your assistance in trying to get OS/2 2.1 installation to
recognize my Sony CDU-31A. I followed your instructions exactly: 1.) Made the
2 installation disks (a: [5.25]) 2.) Copied over SONYB31A.ADD 3.) Because I
deleted ah*.add, I removed those lines from the config.sys 4.) Warmbooted (I
can access the CD-ROM through DOS) However, I still get the SYS0318 error. I
tried the /A:0 /P:1F88 parameters as in the readme, but still no go. I doubled
check the I/O address, and it is correct. I am really stumped as to the
problem (at first, I had mistyped in sony31a.add in the config.sys, a logical
reason for it not to work, but I corrected to sonyb31a.add). I would really
appreciate any other advice you could offer.
Thanks,

Eric,
Geekers, I'm really getting stumped here – only one question left. What does
the line in your DOS CONFIG.SYS file that installs the 31A driver look like?
-car-
Chuck,
My DOS Config.sys line looks as follows:
DEVICE=C:\QEMM\LOADHI.SYS C:\FUSION16\SLCD.SYS /D:MVCD001 /B:1F88 /M:P
It works fine in DOS! An IBM guy on PSPBETA Forum recomends loading the Media
Vision PAS16 driver (MVPRODD.SYS) before SONYB31A.ADD. I tried this and it
still gave the SYS0318 error! I can't believe it won't work, other people are
having success.
Thanks,
Eric Baumgardner
Eric,
Hmmm, let's back up a ways. You're trying to install OS/2 2.1 March beta from
CD-ROM. You're installing over MS-DOS? Which version? You have a Media
Vision PAS-16 board with the 31A interface on-board, and you can access the
CD-ROM from DOS. I can see from your DOS CONFIG.SYS file that the port address
for your 31A drive is 1F88. You created the two OS/2 boot diskettes (5.25"),
you deleted all of the AHA*.add files from the second diskette and removed the
"BASEDEV=" lines referencing those files from the CONFIG.SYS file on the same
diskette. You copied the file SONYB31A.ADD to the second diskette, and you
added the following line to the _end_ of the CONFIG.SYS file on that diskette:
BASEDEV=SONYB31A.ADD /a:0 /p:1f88 You performed a warm boot with the
first diskette in your A: drive, put the second diskette in the drive when you
were prompted to, and you still get the SYS0318 error. Sounds like you're
doing everything I did, except I only deleted the file AHA152x.ADD instead of
all the Adaptec .ADD's. Am I right so far? -car-
Chuck,
That's exactly what I've done so far. I am trying to install OS/2 2.1 March
beta over MS-DOS 5.0. Everything worked perfectly in DOS/Windows. I even had
OS/2 2.0 working fine with the PAS16 (no CD-ROM installed) before I deleted it
for the 2.1 beta. As for now, I will follow what you did, and make 2 new
diskettes from the INSTALL.BAT, and this time only delete AHA152x.ADD. Where
in the CONFIG.SYS did you add SONYB31A.ADD?
Thanks,
Eric Baumgardner
Eric,
Actually, I replaced the BASEDEV line for the AHA152x driver with one for the
31A. I'm going to try an install on another system today to make sure I can
successfully install over DOS 5.0. Did you use dual boot or boot manager when
you had OS/2 2.0 on your system? What type of system do you have
(manufacturer, processor, hard disk type, etc)? Also, where are you located?
I might want to give you a call to talk some of this through, if that's okay
with you.
Chuck
Chuck,
I appreciate your assistance so far. Since our last message, I have
experimented with new installation disks and with just deleting AHA152X.
Unfortunately, still no success. I also played around with moving the
BASEDEV=SONYB31A.ADD around in the config.sys (ie. at the end, after cdifs.ifs,
etc.) only to still get the SYS0318 error. When I had 2.0 working, I used Dual
Boot, but have since re-formatted C:\. I am using a Centrix 486-33 ISA with an
ETEQ chipset. I have two hard disks installed (0=Maxtor LXT-213 & 1=Maxtor
7120A) with a Diamond Stealth video card. I am located in Cincinnati, Ohio.
