Katherine, Are there any names of retreival software that are recommended over others? I described what I am doing in the previous message. Thanks, Pat.

Pat, There are number of retrieval packages available, and your description was rather open-ended. Without more information it would be difficult to suggest what might work for you. Here are some questions to help narrow the field: What platform (computer) do you intend your program to run on? Do you want to use a GUI? Which one? Do you want a multimedia presentation? Do you want to use a hypertext function? What other capabilities do you want (full-text index, scrolling fields, etc.)? Do you object to paying a royalty for runtime copies of the retrieval engine? What is your general budget for the development system? What is your budget for scanning/OCR? Do you plan to do that yourself or hire a service? That should do for starters. <g> Kathy <<– The One-Off CD Shop MidSouth, Inc.

Kathy, Let me see if I can narrow it down for you: The platform I will use is MS-DOS on all stand alone systems, and either MS-DOS or UNIX for the networked systems. No GUI. No multimedia. Probably will use hypertext. Other capabilities: full text search, and the rest I am still looking into with potential end-users. Royalties: depend on the price and quality of the DB engine, and the amount of the royalty. My budget is not yet set, since this project is still in its infancy. I am working on my bus plan now, however, and since I have not seen many estimates yet, I am not certain of my budgets. Thanks, Pat.
