<Five years from now, I'll bet … spreadsheet … will have 3D … animation>
HEAT25.ZIP is a 3D animation created by capturing graphs produced by EXCEL.
It took one minute to create each frame (with a macro):
– captured the screen from EXCEL in the clipboard;
– pasted the contents of the clipboard in Paintbrush;
– saved as a BMP file.
If EXCEL had displayed the changes to the graph after each iteration, it would
have displayed about eight frames/minute on my 486-66 DX2. I don't think we
need to wait five years!

With Sense8's WTK for Windows, you can control 3D graphics interactively via
DDE. The product is currently available as a beta release, with final due out
real soon now. <g>
One of the demo program's that comes with the package is a chart of US
population, with data coming from a live Excel spreadsheet.
It uses Win32 extensions and doesnt get great speed, but it does work.
Sense8 is in Sausalito and was founded by some folks who left Autodesk's
Cyberia project many years ago.

I guess that's the project Autodesk used to send "liberal" programmers
to… (Hey Mengan, watch out…) <g>
Interesting! Thanks for the information!
