Hi Pat! I'll send you the batch file later, but I think you will need a bit of ammo for the network administrator concept first. I'm responsible for five different networks – at four different sites. I'm the direct administrator for two networks and advise on three others. We have two more sites coming on in Septemeber. These networks … – one is a fifty user – one lab of 22 workstations, another of 15 workstations, a couple of print servers, seven units in the library and four teacher office units. – one is an office network for two secretaries, two counsellors, two printservers, myself and a co-op ed teacher. (Admin is too fuzzy to use a computer – they write everything by hand and have someone else process it) The above two networks I handle by myself. It's a full time job and then some – I've got a helper – a math/science teacher who is taking courses and reading lots in order to be able to help – he's getting better, but it takes time. – an elementary school with a 20 user system – 12 teacher desktop units, two secretaries, a printserver, and one unit for the principal. It has just been installed and won't be fully functional before September. – an RS6000 with 6 PCs attached as terminals for running our Board Office accounting and personnel applications. Most of this sytem is turnkey – when something goes wrong, the vendors phone me to walk through the problem with them. – a small secondary school with a 100 user system (overkill) – ten teacher workstations, a staff room workstation, two counsellor units, one for the secretary, one for the principal, and six in the library. The principal here is a keener and only phones me every month or so for advice. My advice … you will need approximately one full time person (manager, computer support or whatever) for ever 30 to 50 workstations, depending on what your situation is. Where I am, we have Jostens Invest learning system, night school, CAD classes, business ed, school administration, accounting, library circulation, etc. You have to know all the packages and how they interact with Novell. It is not for the faint of heart. You cannot teach and run the systems too. (yes I do, but I don't advise it) Does this help?
