Help!!!! I keep getting dumped out of lightwave. I'm rendering a simple
animation. My Amiga crashes and I get a red flashing message….
Software Failure
Error: 8100 0005 Task: 0023ECD0
I have 13 meg and a '030 GVP
What should I do ? More mem?

More memory is probably not the solution. One possible problem MIGHT be mixed
32 & 16 bit memory??
More likely, you've got a CIA out of whack, (8520a) the odd one. Also you can
try re-installing your Software, and if you've got either Quarterback Tools or
Ami-Back Tools (Must have's) run the file checker to make sure you don't have a
file that's mangled somewhere.

Two things.
1. What is a CIA?
2. Where do I get one of the tools programs. Here in a library or are they
commercial?

The CIA (there are two of them) are chips which control several functions on
the Amiga. On the 2000 you need to take out the power supply and disk drive
frame to get at them. I'd reccomend getting the Amiga Emergency Startup Kit
from Grapevine, which has a bunch of diagnostic charts and software as well as
tools and chips.
Re: Tools, Both Quarterback Tools and Ami-Back Tools are decent progams
available commercially. They optimize your Hard Disks, check for errors and
find deleted files for restoration. They are both good.
