I have the same problem as you, but it occurs only when I do something with Imagine ( because only then I let the machine run for more than two or three hours). I have quite the same specs as you have (Rev.6 etc.) I hope someone can give a solution !

I have also the same problem ! sometimes the computer crashs during the boot process ! When I want to use the serial port on the G-Force 040 I need to boot twice the computer : any idea ? The first time I can't use my modem, I have no error but nothing is transmitted.

My computer does not crash "sometimes" during the boot process, but "every" time.(The second boot goes well ! ) I do not use the serial port of the G-Force 040, because of so many problems :).But I'm so used having problems that I am really sad if an item that I add to my Amiga works fine the first time. For a laugh, you can try the "vmm"-programm in amigatech_Forum or a GoldenGate_Emulator with the G-Force 040.

This happens to me, too. Do you have an external scsi unit attached? For me, I power up everything except the CPU and wait a few seconds. Then, I turn on the computer. With few exceptions, it boots-up normally. BTW, I have an A2000 with GVP '040. I used to always warm boot following a bad cold boot. Then, I read on these forums about problems with the GVP not letting enough time pass for devices to get up to speed. Stephen Bailey Sawyer & Bailey Film and Video CIS # 72773,2451

Yes I power up all external units, I wait 20 seconds ( the external disk must do no noise ! – sorry my english is bad – ) and turn on the computer… With this method I can, boot many times ( not not all the times ). If I need to use the serial port of the accelerator I wait fews minutes ( I can use the computer ) and I do a warm-start ( ctrl-Amiga-Amiga ). Another problem with this card G-Force 040 for A2000 is that the Retina ( zorro 2 version ) doesn't work very often : I need to reboot too ! MacroSystem explains this by a timing problem on accelerated A2000….. I have buy a Picasso card now. Is it possible to use the bus on the card to add memory ? ( more than 16K ? ) or this connector is only for the very expenssive EGS-110/24 ? I have 12Mb on the card but now if I buy 16Mb simms I can't re-use them… If I add 4Mb the card is fully populated ( and 16Mb are expensive ).

I think you are right with doing a warm boot after a bad cold boot. I do the same thing every time I start the Amiga. Before the GVP-Card I had the Commodore A2620-Card and I had to "cold-boot" the Computer everytime twice.

Bernard, The first item to check is in the S:User-Startup file, where the GVPCPUCTRL FASTROM MOVESSP command is called. Immediately before this command you should see the command CPU NOCACHE — if it is NOT there, then please insert it. The first command AFTER the GVPCPUCTRL line should be CPU CACHE. Again, if it's not there then insert it. You noted that the Amiga motherboard is revision 6; please look around the motherboard for a sticker with a revision number of 6.2 or higher. If you have a plain rev.6 (nothing higher), then this is part of the problem. The rev.6 & 6.1 have known expansion problems, which is why they were eventually revised to 6.2 and higher. If you don't have a 6.2, then have your dealer make the modifications necessary. GVP TECH

If you get any answers to GVP 040 hangs such as you describe, I love to get a copy… I have been facing multiple random hangs while running Lightwave/Toaster 3.1… Thanks, Luke (Pat) Montgomery "REAL" E-mail: compvid@tyrell.net CompVid Computer Video Graphics Services CompuServe: 70274,2177 Greater Kansas City Voice: (913) 780-0222 —————————————————————————– There's no place like home… There's no place like home… There's no…
