I am having a problem when exiting momemtarily from 3-D Studio to DOS
Window (F10), then trying to get back in again. When I wish to
return to 3-DS I type "EXIT" but I get a message.. CDR101: Not ready
reading drive D At this point I am able to type either retry, abort,
or fail. If I try abort, I get this message.. "o physical pages
available for pg flt hndlr 0002h" but if I type fail, it takes me
back to 3-DS. Just wondering if this is foreshadowing to future
problems. Thanks.

Sounds like you have removed a CD-ROM drive from it's home, or
somehow re-initialized it. Whenever 3DS starts up, it searches for
all available drives, including CD-ROMS. A quick way to fix it is to
just load a CD-ROM and do a "dir" of the drive. Then type "exit" and
you should be OK.
