#Chaos under DESQview

Thanks for the effort. It puzzles me that DESQview would not make the
switch to EGA for the MENU program, but I don't know much about how such
things work. In the meantime, I've written a totally successful batch file
that lets me run everything beautifully under DV. The mouse cursor behaves
rather oddly (i.e., it disappears for awhile) in Toy Universes, but
everything else is fine.
One more thing. I find (whether in DV or not) that the tops and bottoms of
some programs go off the screen. E.g., the F1-Help button is beyond the
edge in Mandelbrot. I've got an ATI VGA Wonder+ card and
a multiscan monitor. Anything I can do about it?

David – You can change the screen size and location on multiscan monitors
to match different frequencies from the graphics card. Perhaps you need to
adjust it for VGA, or have it adjusted. Most of Chaos runs at 640×480, or
higher, with some bits of 320x200x256 colors where appropriate. Again, it
may that DV is not responding correctly to the video shifts, but it may be
only a matter of tweaking the monitor.
That's incorrect, Carl. All of CHAOS runs at 640×480, or, if on an EGA
rather than a VGA, at 640×350, except for "rendering" in the FORGE module,
which runs at 320×200. Never any higher than 640×480 (except for my own
version at home, which runs at 1024×768, hee hee.)

Thanks. You're right, of course. All I had to do was adjust that little
knob way at the back of my monitor–the one I set when I bought the thing
and totally forgot about since. I work almost exclusively in text mode,
and keep the vertical size set to fill the screen in that mode. Resetting
it with Chaos on screen fixed everything. Thanks for taking the time with
what was basically a silly question.
