Its a matter of shopping carefully, but a DX2-80 VLB with 8mb ram and a
graphics accelerator, 15" monitor, etc runs about $1300. I agree that the
software is bloated. W95 is expected to require a base 8mb to walk, and 16mb to
actually respond quickly.
W95 IS pre-emptive multitasking, but the Amiga did that years ago. The A1000
with only 256K could do multiple simple things. 512k held it for most needs.
2-3 mb is gobs of memory in an Amiga unless you're running some of the more
memory intensive applications.
Well, simplicity was never Microsoft's forte. Really, they should be named
Macrosoft, except then that removes half of the phallic insult. <G>

One of the local New York TV stations reported that Windows 95 needed 8mb
RAM to run and was "corrected" by MicroSoft saying it would run on 4mb. While
the news program reported what MS told them on their next broadcast they also
pointed out that W95 instructions said you needed at least 6mb of RAM.
Someone at MicroSoft is confussed.

Not really the first time I guess. I had trouble teaching people how to use
Windows and the related software because the institute were I gave the course
*believed* microsoft who said you needed a minimum of 1Mb… Nearly nothing
worked, and if it did, it was so horribly slow… I had trouble with my people
because they just couldn't believe microsoft didn't tell the truth, hence I was
the man who didn't know his job…
