A2000/WB2.1 Compatible?

My father has just updated his ancient A2000 machine to WB2.1. Everything
appears to work fine at first but quite often when attempting to open a drawer
or run a program everything goes dead. The mouse pointer becomes frozen and the
only way out appears to be to re-boot. Changing directories and running
programs from the shell appears to be perfectly OK and has never hung up even
when running the same programs that hang when tried from workbench. The fault
is not totally repeatable as occasionally things work for one or two clicks!.
Does anyone know if this is a known problem or has the new workbench uncovered
a hardware problem that didn't occur with the old version. (2.0)
The problem is present when booted from hard drive and from floppy.
System has Kickstart 37.175 , WB 38.36, 3MB Ram, Trumpcard Hard drive.
Any ideas would be welcome. (Apart from get a more modern machine!)
Thanks….. Colin Durbridge. (U.K.)
One thing you might try is backing up your files and then reformatting the
harddrive. I seem to recall having to do that when I upgraded the 500 from 1.3
to 2.1.

Thanks Brian, I will give it a try. I have heard from several people that it
should run OK so obviously something is wrong.
Thanks…. Colin
Colin;
I have not been on much lately so this is a rather late response…
I would suggest that the previous suggestion of reformating (actually do a full
reinstall — that is reprep the drive so that a new RDB with the latest
filesystem gets installed on the drive).
Also, consider swapping the CIA chips (or replace). Most mouse related
problems can be traced to these. Also, it is _NOT_ unusual for a CIA related
problem to also be version sensitive (that is the problem in the chip will not
manifest itself under all versions of the OS).
