#Separating Axis'

I've just logged in about 3 hours on Imagine Lite, and I'm trying to work the particle animation on page 279 of the manual. It says that after creating a sphere, I must move the axis to the right edge of the sphere. How do you separate an axis from an object? I can hit Shift-M and move the entire object, but not the axis. Very frustrated. Can anyone help with this. I'm a seasoned user of trueSpace, but like the advanced features of Imagine. Please help. Steve

>> I can hit Shift-M and move the entire object, but not the axis. << To move a complete object you should just press <M> to move an axis you should use <SHIFT-M>. In the current version of imagine there is a bug with one of the shift keys, so I'd suggest trying the other shift key. Also you can use the ALT-T to type in the amount of motion to do, but make sure you have the axis only button pressed. -Sam J. Bowling

Thanks Sam. This program sure is alot different from trueSpace! Both programs have their +'s. trueSpace has definitely got the interface, and Imagine kicks with features! I am seriously thinking about upgrading to the Pro version of 3.0, but I've read around here that there might be a 4.0 coming soon? Do you know if an when it's going to be released? Thanks Steve

Do you know if an when it's going to be released? << Steven, PMFJI, Imagine 4.0 is slated for release mid-end May. It doesn't matter when it comes out though, as the upgrade path will be the same for you. That is…$200 to upgrade from LT to 3.0, and $100 to upgrade to 4.0. Also, to upgrade to the native Win95 version of Imagine when it comes, you will be able to from IM4.0 I know a little of what is in store for 4.0, and I am truly excited. People who are part of Impulse's constant update program will be giddy when they receive the interim 3.3 version at the end of this month <trust me guys>. <g> -GreG

Greg, I just ordered my Upgrade to 3.0 Pro + the constant update deal. They said they would ship me 3.0, 3.1, and 3.2 tommorrow. I can't wait to see them. You say 3.3 is on the way? Alright, I love this program! I have been using trueSpace for quite a while, and am used to "seeing" animations in graphical/visual layouts. Can you use Imagine to, for-instance, make a spline line and watch a ball follow it? It's hard to get used to inputting numbers all the time. Any help on that? What's new for 3.3? Is that the one with the graphical material editor? Steve

Steve, Man are you gonna be in for an overload. <g> Actually, since you are upgrading from LT it won't be as big an overload as it would be if you were upgrading from 2.0! <g> Although texture/image tacking, states, and bones, 100+ textures, 12+ special effects, etc. are gonna open up a new area for ya. Heck, SHREDDER.IFX should keep ya real busy. It's a killer effect…think of it as being able to explode an object into random shaped pieces, or even predefined shaped pieces, have them bounce, tumble, and even have wind affect them. Yep…3.3 should ship end of this month. >> am used to "seeing" animations in graphical/visual layouts. Can you use Imagine to, for-instance, make a spline line and watch a ball follow it? << Yes you can, you can either make a spline path in the detail editor, and then load it into the ACTION/STAGE editors so an object can follow it, or you can create a spline path directly in the stage editor and then tell an object to follow it over a given number of frames. Once you set up your anim parameters, you can make a quick perspective view anim in wireframe/solid modes to preview it. Basically, first add the path object, then add the object that's to follow that path. DELETE the position bar of the object. Now ADD a new position bar for the object and select FOLLOW PATH, entering the name of the path object. If you need more detailed help on how to set up a path and have an object follow it let me know. >> What's new for 3.3? Is that the one with the graphical material editor? Ummm, errr, did I say that? <g> -GreG

>> Heck, SHREDDER.IFX should keep ya real busy. It's a killer effect.. << Can you believe I've only used it once? True! I've been so busy working on stuff I haven't had time to play with this stuff. This is starting to get like work… except I'm not getting paid for it and it's more fun.<G> -Sam J. Bowling
