#New Animate 3-D
9 messages in this thread
I just received the new Animate 3-D update in the mail. I can't tell
the diff between 'Sketch' and 'Painting' modes. Did I miss something?
Robert, not having Animate I can't help. Are there any differences when you
render in Sketch rather than Painting modes?
Not much difference between Sketch and Paint. Sketch runs a little
faster, but neither mode has much to do with ray traced image
characteristics that we know and love, ( no shadows, no reflections, no
smoothing, no texture), other than shading. I guess I miss the point of the
new mode (Sketch).
The rest of the update has to do with a 'Tested' Frame buffer
interface (minus driver) and a 'Simulated Tested' Frame controller
interface (again, minus driver). It is reasonable that the drivers are not
included because they are hardware dependent. Byte by Byte says the new
version also fixed some bugs, but didn't mention what they were. It almost
seems as though there might be some other reason for sending out the
update, other than the stated ones, but I haven't a clue what else it could
be. Or perhaps they are just anxious to present as good a product as they
can. Still, it seems to be a lot of effort for not very much of a change in
product.
Robert, PAINTING mode is great for getting quick previews of the work.
Don't have the foggiest what Sketch does. Didn't you get an errata sheet
desribing it? Hmmm….could it be that sketch is the same as Paint, but no
hidden polygon removal is done? That could be the reason for it's faster
time and almost no noticeable difference.
Yes, you have it exactly. "Sketch differs from Painting mode in that
it doesn't "subdivide" faces in order to make sure that hidden surfaces are
actually hidden" to quote the Update file on the new disk. I guess if a
person wanted to do a Sketch rendering of an animation sequence, a
signifigant time benefit would be realized. Perhaps this is more important
to others. I only use the Paint mode to verify colors, and seldom render
more than a single frame in this mode.
Also, in my haste to try out the new version, I over looked the
refinements section of the Update file, which says flaws in the Save Images
gadget, Project Save Object, heirarchies, and motion blur have been
corrected, as well as changes to reduce rounding errors.
When I started this line of inquiry, I thought I misunderstood the
aspects of the upgrade or that I wasn't using it correctly. Perhaps I
didn't miss as much as I thought.
