#Soundscape 1.4

Yes Bill, that message came through loud and clear. Now we'll see if anyone
can comment on your problem. As I mentioned to you in our 'plex
conversation, I have never seen this symptom at all, and am unable to
reproduce it here. I assume you are running SoundScape 1.4. Are you on a
1000? (I forget, sorry). Have anything running in the background, or are you
booting straight off the SoundScape master disk?
Give me a rundown of exactly what you do to fire up and have this problem and
I'll see if I can duplicate it here.

Rick:
I've tried it every way I could think of(master disk,ss workbench,etc). I
am currently running a 2000, but had the same problem with my old 1000. My
friend has had the same problem with both 1000 and 2000 also. As I said , it
seems to work OK using the QWERTY keyboard which would lead me tpo believe
the problem is in ith MIDI in device, however when I use the MIDI controller
with the internal oscillators it works OK too.Could the 4 note polyphony
limit have something to do with that? The tone that gets locked on usually
seems to be 1 octave lower than the octave I'm playing in.Also there is a
delay involved between depressing the key and sounding of the corresponding
note, which increases the more complex the music is.When the generator and
controller are connected directly I have never had a problem, and everything
works OK with DMCS. All I have to do to experience the problem is to boot
with SS,connect either midi to midi or midi to recorder in the patch panel,
set to thru and play. I'm only online Friday thru Monday, have to pay for my
toys the rest of the week. Appreciate the help.
Mmm, sounds like you have a problem that's not common. How exactly do you
have your MIDI cables connected? Some synthesizers get confused if you give
them their own data back… my DX7, for example, gets rather perturbed with
me if I tie OUT to IN and do a lot of fast stuff, and ANY synthesizer will
lose its mind if you tie THRU to IN and manage to get a note or two in the
loop somehow. To eliminate any possibility of this sort of thing, run just
one MIDI cable from your controller keyboard's OUT to the Amiga's IN, then
another from the Amiga's OUT to the slave's IN (if you haven't tried this
already). This will eliminate any possibility of a loop.
We'll get this knocked yet.
Rick:
I tried eliminating loops awhile back.NG. I also have another YAMAHA
synth.A self-contained 6300 that I use for a drum machine now. This has the
same problem. You have no problems with your DX7? If I am in a thru config
and get a locked on note, I can stop it by opening the tape deck. If the tape
deck is open and in use and it locks on I can stop thre e he note by shutting
the tape deck down. If I continue playing eventually I will wind up with 4
or 5 notes locked on, then it seems to begin subtracting notes the next time
they're hit until I'm left with 1 locked on again. I anxiously awaited the
arrival of this program If the patch I'm using is a percussive one, the note
does a slooooow decay, as if the key continued on,then locks on at the
sustain level of the amplitude envelope.
As far as the install program is concerned, I tried every possible combo
but no matter what I did it refused to recognize Volume Workbench I finally
had to rewrite the program to df0: to df2: directly. It o df2: directly. It
1: directly. It worked OK after that. THANX Bill
Nope, I've had no problems with my system. I am running a DX7, a DW6000,
three TF1s, and an SPX90, all chained together with the DX7 as the master,
and all looping through the Amiga. I've never seen the problems you're
mentioning, which sound extremely severe.
I can't recall if we've covered this before: you ARE running SoundScape 1.4,
aren't you?
Sounds like time for a call to Mimetics to me. Perhaps you have a bad copy?
Rick
Rick:
I've come to the same conclusion myself(about the call to mimetics)
especially after hearing about the complexity of your system and your lack of
problems. Do you know if Mimetics has a BBS?
When I had my original problems with the install sequence, I called them
at the # on the warranty card.A machine answered, I left my name and #, but
never received a return call. From this I got the (mistaken?) impression of a
lack of support, as well as a (mistaken?) impression of a lack of quality in
their product. Thanx for the help.Just wanted to see if it was just me.
