I have an A1000 with a 1080 monitor and am looking to purchase a pair of
monitors to use with video editing equipment. The thought occurred to me to
add a pair of similar monitors because they are capable of receiving a/v
input and produce a good picture compared to another monitor I have…also
the price for them is within the budget. Do any of you use such a setup? Do
you recommend it? Also what is the difference between the 1080, 1084 and
2002? Thanks for your help.
Bill,
I can't help you with much of your question, but I can tell you about
some of the differences between the monitors.
1080 and 2002 No difference other than the nameplate.
1080 and 1084 Very little difference, different manufacturer
and differnt input plugs (DIN plugs which are NOT
very stable on the 1084)
All three of them are 'moderate' video quality, sufficient for most
needs…but there are both better and worse monitors available…with
appropriate prices.
Don
Thanks for the info, Don. Since I am using 8mm camcorders and editing onto
SuperBeta I suspect that these monitors will deliver all that there is to
see…correct?
I do NOT recommend any of Commodore's monitors. I cringe when I have to
use the 1080 at work, it's very washed out, faded, and the text is quite
fuzzy (compared to other monitors). However, I'm not sure what to recommend
you that would be capable of what you need (video editing equipment). Maybe
someone else does. Stay away from the Commodore monitors if you can.
Thanks to you too, Henry. Interesting…have heard some others speak badly of
the Commodore line. I have given some thought to trying to locate a pair of
Sony 1311 monitor/tvs because I have heard that they were very good…but can
only locate one…and for $200 more than Commodores…also very bulky.
Another advantage that occured to me was the hoped for consistency of color
if all monitors were the same (my Amiga is used with a Progen)…but maybe
one of Commodore's weaknesses is that they are not consistent?????????
I'm not sure what to recommend to you. But buying a Commodore monitor is
like castrating your Amiga. You cut all your colors down to around the range
of much lesser computers. Your text is as fuzzy as 40 column text on a
television. It's unfortunate because I think that the Amiga would have even
a stronger reputation than it does if it had a real good monitor that "went"
with it normally instead of the junk Commodore's made. I don't understand
why they've always made pathetic printers, and they made 1 really nice
composite monitor (the 1802, not for the Amiga) but have yet to do a good
Amiga monitor. Perhaps the person who designed the C64 printers is doing
Commodore's monitors.
In any case, the Sony model you have mentioned may have been disontinued.
If so, it's probably been replaced with a newer model number that does the
same thing.
If you have to hold off for a month or 2 to buy a real good monitor, I'd
suggest that.
