The major reason Draw Plus uses ASCII is because a float using FFP isn't the same float using 68881 IEEE. You might be interested in the drawing format dicussion (IFF) in the amiga.dev/iff section of BIX. I've been pusing for scaled 32 bit ints, but it looks like IEEE's going to win out. William Volk

Um, no, I wouldn't be interested – I consider participation in/in BIX to be tantamount to supplying $$$ to terrorists – anti-amiga terrorists, who use weapons of paper. And if the Std is inefficient, then there will have to be intermediate files, with stand alone convert programs. I can't hand my customers multiple-minute load times; it's unacceptable, for many reasons. Glad to hear the info, tho – any participation _here_ you might make is certainly welcome; But BIX is anathema, at least to me. –Ben–

Commodore's there, hence I visit it. I much prefer CIS because I can do all my work offline. With message subjects I can skip over what I need to read. On BIX you end up wading thru a ton of messages. The IFF dicussion is on Commodore's support section. By the way, what ever happened to the vendor support section for CIS and Amiga?

Look in your mail (US Snail type) late next week).

Talk to Steve – He'll tell you al about it, I'm sure. As for CBM being there, they shouldn't be – BIX/Byte did/does more to harm the Amiga than any other force outside of IBM's marketing organization; support of BIX is like driving coffin nails into your machine. You, of course, do as you see fit – but to me, it's unethical. As far as BIX's message handling capabilities, they're immaterial – it's like discussing the message handling capabilites of an Apple/IBM marketing firms BBS – why use it anyway. Developers that use BIX are paying Byte 10$/hour (or more, I don't know firsthand) to knock the Amiga monthly. It's far worse than buying that raggy, lying, inaccurate mat of IBM-boot-licking Apple pulp… they only get 4-5$, once a month, for that trash… BIX, on the other hand, provides them with much more profit, while putting forth a completely false image of "fairness". Byte is approximatly the quality of the National Enquirer, IMHO. And BIX, by association. It's a matter of ethics. –Ben–

Talk to Commodore …. not to me. I'm there (on BIX) because Commodore's there … and BIX also provides Aegis with it's own product support section …. They PAY US to run that section.

<shrug> What if they paid you to knock the Amiga? Would you do it? Where's the difference? You're actually paying THEM to knock the Amiga; seems to me it's not the same, it's worse. I do talk to CBM, btw – them that show up here. –Ben–

Gee Bill, that ought to be an easy win for you. If Lauren would send me my magic developers stuff, I'd help you try to win that one. Scaled integers are VERY nice, but very few people understand them.

I'll go with IEEE if that's the decision. BUT I do believe that the scaled int. approach is superior. Biggest problem with the IFF drawing standard is dealing with stuff like parametric drawings (the dimensions in Draw Plus are a small example). There's also some desire to IFF PostScript as a drawing standard.
