VISIONARY BUG REVISITED
2 messages in this thread
To Pat At OXXI: I have come to the conclusion that I must have a defective
or wrong version of Visionary. I just bought John Olsen's book 'The
Visionary Programmer's Handbook' at World Of Commodore in New York.
Included with the book was a game called 'Cannibal'. Cannibal uses the same
type of input loop that the game 'Magic Potion' uses that was shipped with
the original Visionary disk. The COMPILED game on the 'Cannibal' disk DOES
RESPOND AUTOMATICALLY to directions such a N,S,E,W. That is, the ghost
command properly sends visionary a direction and it responds appropriately
to that direction. However, after recompiling the game with VCOMP and
linking with the new versions of VLINK you sent me, the game again did NOT
RESPOND TO DIRECTIONS. Why can John Olsen who wrote the Visionary Handbook
get correct results but I can't? What version of VCOMP does John Olsen have
that I don't have? Can you give me John Olsen's phone number or a CIS ID if
you cannot solve this problem. I note that you, Pat Cummings, contributed
to the Visionary manual, as shown on the copyright page. Please get me a
version of VISIONARY that works! By the way, did you get my visionary.lzh
file I sent you with fixes to 'Magic Potion' that caused it to work using
directions as ACTION commands. Note that 'Cannibal' by John Olsen does NOT
use directions as action commands, but rather as they should be
-interpreted by VISIONARY via the ghost commands from SCREENMODE GRAPHICS.
–Thanks for listening to this flame from person trying to make his
investment in VISIONARY pay off. Regards, Patrick Beaudine. BETA TESTER FOR
VISIONARY.
Patrick —
Sorry for the long delay in response, I've been benighted at our UK office,
where they weren't able to put together a modem and serial cable for me to
log onto CompuServe (no kidding!).
I've just returned today, so I'll dig through the pile of waiting
correspondence for your disk, take a look at the files — may I post them
here if they prove to be a general solution for this question?
John Olsen isn't on CIS, so far as I know, though I might be able to get a
triangle going here where he sends files to me and I post them. I will
suggest it to him this weekend when we have our regular chat.
Regards, Whap!penned…
