#Amiga & Quick B protocol

Hello all. This seems as good a place as any to ask this question. I am
using an Amiga running NCOMM 2.0. When downloading, I try to use the CIS
Quick B protocol but nothing happens. It does ask me for startup text to
send (something like "DOW/PR:QB"), then I get the download dialog box and
it keeps timing out. Has anyone had any experience using this program
and/or this protocol? (Incidentally, the protocol is accessed as an
external library (xprquickb.library)).

Chris,
First off, what model Amiga are you using, what modem, what version
of WorkBench and is it from ROM or Disk/KickStart,and what baud rate and
settings are you using? Several things may be happening but hard to tell
without more info.

I am using an Amiga 500 with Workbench 1.3 and a GVC 2400 modem. I call in
at 2400 and use 8N1. I have had no problems downloading from your
run-of-the-mill BBS systems locally, under the same configuration.

Just to comment…I had some difficulties with using a GVC 2400 modem and
Term 2.2. I don't think the GVC (at least the one I have) has a normal
pinout.

I am currently using Term2.1, is there any real reason to upgrade to ver
2.2? The short description of the file on CIS says it fixes a big bug, did
the docs tell exactly what that was?

I have been using Term 2.2b, but was on hiatus from Term since 1.8 (which
was buggy as all get out). I have found it to be stable and pretty fast.
It does the job…no mention of the bug, however. I might have missed it,
however…

I have not tried to use NRCOMM with the xpr libraries, but I do use the
xprquickb.library with BACKTALK regularly and without any problems. My
only effort at using NRCOMM was from a friend's computer in another
country, and I had problems even accessing CIS with it there. Something in
his modem setup, I suspect, and I didn't want to play with his setup, since
it worked fine for his needs there. Anyway, I don't think the problem is
with the xpr library, because those are working well with other programs
that I do know.

Hello, Chris; you are not alone! If you check back over recent weeks, you
will see a thread on the same problem between Nancy Devitt and me. I have
managed to contact the author of NComm2.0 via Internet and he told me he
had not tested the CompuServe-B code in this implementation. I have tried
everything and I am sure it is a bug. However, don't give up. With Quick-B
set up as an external, it will download on average once in every five goes.
If it seems to freeze, just wait for about 30 secs when the link will
unlock and try again, or use some other Term. program.

Thanks. One question though. When initiating transfer, what text string
should I tell the protocol to send? (OR should I accept the default?)
