#Toolbook,uhm.. not good

From your last message, it's clear(er) that your frustration has some history,
which I didn't know. It is a shame that the software doesn't deliver what the
hardware supports, but I suppose we're doomed to deal with that sort of cycle.
For your info, not only does Nautilus support 640×480, but I often have to jump
through all kinds of hoops to get my programs to run at 640×480. The problem
comes from systems that not only run at 640×480, but also use very large fonts.
That doesn't leave much real estate at all! (That's why TB apps don't even run
at a full 640×480 on many, many systems, BTW.) Maybe I'm too easy going, but
I'm not going to fight that when I have stuff to get out; I'll just use
whatever annoys me the least and get on with it. I'll leave the noise-making to
you, OK? It does need to be done; I hate to admit it, but many of the folks
writing these tools can't hear anything less than a shout…
That's about as close as you'll get me to complaining, though. <g>
As for 1024×768, I'll see what I can do to provide the larger sizes when I
provide bitmaps. When I capture video, of course, there's no point; the
largest size is 640×480 there. But I'll be doing a column one of these days on
a factal landscape generator, and I'll be sure to include some at the larger
sizes. For the record, I work at 1280×1024, but I never use wallpaper.

Actually, I work at 1024X1268, and I do use wallpaper, but it's only that
tiny "paper.bmp" file from WIN30. It's just easier on the eyes and doesn't take
much memory. Besides, it keeps me from having my son sneak in and put on one of
his own creations….
With the price of larger monitors now finally coming down (although nowhere
near enough yet) and video cards in the two hundred buck or so range supporting
at least 1024 X 768, I'm not surprised it's becoming popular. Alas, so long as
we're nailed to the bitmap cross, everything has to be put out to the least
common denominator. Now that we have scalable fonts, one hopes MicroSoft will
eventually discover scalable graphics….
The technology for scalable graphics has to be there — consider what must be
going on when you play at video file at anything other than it's normal size.
That's alot of real-time resizing! Maybe if I did the entire application as a
video file….

Ron, they haven't figured out how to quadruple the CD capacity yet, and I'm
afraid that's what you'd need!
Are you kiddng? Most CDs go out with serious amounts of unused space — it's
as bad as the CDs that you buy with music. We worked like crazy on the CD that
came out with Multimedia Madness, and couldn't quite reach 500 megs. <g>
