#Message Downloading Prob
4 messages in this thread
Oh Ho!!! This wouldn't be happening so that the last message you get
is cut off maybe????? The forum software will now handle messages of
10,000 characters and you just may be hanging on a long
message….(this is a WAG…<G>)
CIM is also a real disk kog when downloading messages, make sure that
you have enough space for the message threads (each one is a separate
file) and the temp files.
I have not noticed any messages that were cut off. I downloaded 34
topics today with no problem. The only observation I can give at this
time is that there were 80 topics when it failed last time. I tried
to rejoin the forum, but the command is not active when you are
already a member in the forum that you are presently in. I don't
have alot of extra disk space, but I was dropped back to where I was
before I started downloading after just 11 topics. I repeated the
download with the same results.
Rick,
Well, if it ain't your software, and it ain't the forum software…it's gotta
be in hardware someplace. It evidentally isn't a lack of disk space or the last
download wouldn't have worked, so that leaves us with the modem and the phone
lines. Do you have a hardware error correcting modem ???? Or is all your error
correction handled in software ??? How far are you calling to get to the CIS
node ??? Sometimes on longer distance calls, the phone company will switch
lines during the call. This will not interfere with a regular voice call, but
it can really play havoc with a data call.
Also check to see if this is repeatable at certain times of the day.
Joe:
The modem is a Smart One from Best Data Products. It has V.22 bis if that tells
you anything. What I'm saying is that I don't know if it has hardware error
correcting. I'm using a local access number for CompuSeve. I'm looking into
OzCIS so I can automate my access to CI$ and cut some of my costs. I have dl'd
the documentation formated for WinWord 2.0 and will review it today.
Thanks for your support, if I come up with something concrete on the problem, I
will let you know.
