Hi Donald,
The SBPro and the Mitsumi both use a 40-pin cable to interface with their
respective components. So, in theory they might be compatible.
I've actually spoken to a few people who have, by reversing the cable, gotten
the Mitsumi drive to work while plugged into the SBPro. This might have been
what the salesman you spoke to was referring to…
However, be warned about this trick, because some people who tried this have
fried their SBPro. Perhaps some Mitsumi models work and others don't, but I
dunno… I certainly wouldn't try it.

Thanks for the response. I'll certainly heed your warning and not
plug the Mitsumi into my SBPro. I've gotten a couple of other
responses, which you may have read, one saying the quality of the
Matsushita is not the greatest, the other saying that he's had one
for a year with no problems. I like the latter response, mainly
because I have no more expansion slots left, so I can't get a drive
that requires a different interface.

I think both those responses are pretty accurate. The Matsushita drive
isn't necessarily the highest-quality drive out there in the world,
but when connected to a properly configured SBPro card, it's almost
hassle-free. We've had trouble when venturing into non-DOS based
operating systems, but none really when it comes to DOS/Windows. For
the most of the current applications on the market this drive is more
than adequate, unless you require the fastest equipment inside your
machine…

How Do I find put more info on this subject? I have a Mitsumi CD-ROM and need
a compatible sound card.
