#CD-R with audio???

Does anyone know of a CD recorder that has audio output? Phillips tells me
their drive will write red book audio tracks (which I need), but the drive
itself will not play audio! This means I have to test everything on another
machine.

Well, I'd love to have a Philips recorder myself, so if you could spring
for that the logical thing to do would be to just hang a stock CD ROM on the
SCSI chain and use it for playback tests. Okay, you'll have to remove the disk
from the Philips and put it in the other one, but nothing's perfect….
True. But I wonder how many people are using the new recorders for multimedia
vs. mass storage? BTW, I haven't "sprung" for one of these quite yet…I will
if they do what I want them to do, but what I've seen of the CD-Write software
that comes with the Phillips drive I'm not sure it will…for example, it
claims to support red book audio but it is not mentioned anywhere in the
manual. For that, it seems I would have to fork out another grand or so for
CD-GEN, a product from a company called CD-ROM Strategy in California. Heard
of them?
Never heard of CD GEN, but I note that Pinnacle's new recorder is under five
grand and allegedly has not only red book (and the rest) support but also audio
outputs. Haven't seen it, though, just reviews.
I would suspect that most recorders out there are cranking out beta copies
of things (I've received several such) and archiving or distributing internal
databases in corporate setups.

CDROM Strategies is operated by one of the real old-timers in the CDROM biz,
and his product supports virtually all the recorders, I believe. Probably
worth a look.

It's my understanding that indeed recorders have limited playback capabilities.

The Sony CDW-900E has digital audio output as well as digital data in and out
for daisy chains. Software can read the CD-ROM for
verification as well.
It writes double speed and produces discs that comply in all aspects of Red
Book, Yellow Book, and Green Book standards. We call these, QuickOne(tm)
discs, and they are functionally equivalent to stack discs. They have the same
performance and capacity as the mastered CD. We provide a QuickOne after
premastering for testing after which it is used directly to create the master.
