#Printing Problems…

Hi,
I am having some problems with printing out large documents and I was
wondering if anyone could help…
I have an HP Deskjet 500C. Whenever I go to print out a large document…
over 40k or so.. (just a guess), I always get a message saying that there
is a problem with the printer after a while. I hit resume and then it
comes up again and again until it finally stops printing.
I assume that this is because the printer buffer is full. How do I get my
system (WB 2.1) to wait for the printer to catch up instead of endlessly
having me to click to resume the print job…

I don't know the HP printer, but it does sound as though the printer buffer
is getting full, the handshaking stops the Amiga sending, and then it is
taking a long time to clear the buffer (so the printer driver thinks the
printer has packed up!)
The only thing I can think of is to disable the printer buffer … although
I have no idea how you would do that.

Wait a while before you tell it to resume. Allow the printer's
buffer to empty quite a bit. It won't slow things down any…as long as
there's data in the buffer….it's being printed as fast as it can.
Also, some printers can be setup on what occurs on buffer full
conditions. On some…you can set a parameter that tells the printer when
to request more data…that is, how much has to be emptied out of the
printer buffer before it asks for more data from the computer. If you can
do that…set it to a fairly low number…about 1 or 2 K so that if the
buffer fills, it will only need to pause for a few seconds before it asks
for more data from the computer.
