Help! I'm having problems with the Desktop Darkroom software included
with IV24. I'm trying to grab an image but I'm only getting a compressed
1/2 screen with the lower half grabbing 1/2 the workbench. Can anyone out
there give me a step-by-step way of grabbing images from S-video?

Hi, we conversed awhile back bout' IV24/OpalVsn. I gather you got
the IV24. I'd like to know how you like/dislike it? What is it's main job
in your system?

I remember your messages and I will post a mini review, of sorts, as
soon as I get some questions answered. I don't want to mislead you, or
anyone, until I check out some things. One thing I can tell you is that
Caligari24 really ISN'T the full version as far as ->I<- am concerned.
The full version has a 68000 seperate program. The version that comes
with IV24 needs a math chip. More later.

Leslie, what kind of video source are you using? Things like the cheaper
"digital still cameras" don't output an interlaced field… that tends to
make the grabber go 1/2 screen.

Ben, just who I was looking for! I have one of those special 15 to 23
pin cables with the built-in electronics to allow IV24 to be used with my
1080 monitor. Question: Can I also add Ham-E in the chain without
screwing anything up?
As for my 1/2 screen grab, I am using a Sony Hi-8 camcorder connecting
the S-Video to the VIU. I did it properly once by just fiddling around
but I have no been able to reproduce the way I did the grab. It is
amazing that with all the docs you get none of them just come right out
and tell you how to framegrab step by step. As I mentioned in another
message, I wish there were a 68000 version of Caligari24 included with
IV24. Money is tight and I make my purchaces VERY carefully. I have
figured that until I can make $$$ with the Amiga the speed isn't as
important as other things but an accelerated Amiga seems to be becoming
the norm for high end stuff.
Anyway, I have tried to open up a PIP screen, flip to full screen mode,
use Atl-F9 to freeze and Alt-F10 to grab. Is that the way you do it?

Hi Leslie. Sorry you're having difficulty framegrabbing with the IV-24. I
also have a Hi8 Sony camcorder, and have successfully used it as an S-Video
source into the VIU and framegrabbed from it. If the video looks good in the
PIP or in Genlock mode, you shouldn't have any trouble.
To framegrab, you don't want to use PIP. Framegrabbing captures whatever you
see on the screen basically, so if you're running IVCP2, you can keep hitting
ALT-F6 until you have video only on the screen and then hit ALT-F10 to grab.
You can specify the file through the framegrabber settings in IVCP2.
In Desktop Darkroom (which is definitely friendlier for viewing, grabbing and
manipulating images), you can run the program, specify the resolution, and at
the main screen hit "F" (freeze/preview mode) to preview the incoming video,
and "G" to grab it when you're ready. Darkroom will the show it to you in the
selected display mode. To see it in 24 bit, you can do "D" (for display).

P.S. – Regarding Caligari24 supplied with the IV24 not running on a 68000, I
wasn't aware of that, but we do expect people doing 3D graphics to have an
accelerator card. It will be excruiatingly slow otherwise.
Hi Paul. I reinstalled the software on the hard drive and I'm not
getting the 1/2 screens anymore. I figure I did something wrong but I
can't figure out what it is.
I called Bill Prescott and he was extremely helpful with getting me the
daughter board to allow it to work in my A2000 and the cable for my
ancient 1080 which still serves me well.
I expressed to Bill my dissatifaction with the absence of a 68000
version of Caligari24 as the full version has. I realize my system is the
"odd duck" among the possible IV24 customers but I do think the hardware
requirements for the software should be in the ads. I'm having a problem
with another piece of supplied software but I'm waiting for a call from
tech support.
I don't want to leave anyone reading this what I dislike IV24. It's
great and I'm having a LOT of fun with it. I've gotten a couple great
framegrabs and I'm looking forward to more experimentation.
(By the way, thanks for forwarding my questions to Bill. As I said, he
was a lot of help!)
No – the HAM-E uses six signals that are unique to the Amiga and must
specifically be produced by the Amiga: The RGBI lines and the CLK and C0
lines. The IV24 doesn't produce those signals, it can't, really.
Regarding your hi8 camera… should work fine – that sounds like it's
worth a call to GVP tech support. I never had any problems with good video
camera input (and likely your hi8 is better than my VHS was).

Rats! I guess I'll have to invest in another switch box or something
to use use IV24 and Ham-E. As I said in another message a re-install of
the software took care of my 1/2 screen problem. I must have made some
kind of change unknowingly.
When I got my IV24 I thought I might sell my Ham-E but I like the darn
thing too much. I was one of the first to get one and I'll probably use
it until it breaks.
