I am looking for suggestions for creating headlights on a car I am building in 3ds, and am not having much luck. Does anyone know the easiest way to take this model and put spot lights for the headlights, render the scene and have the lights be bright like a beam? Also, I am placing the lights behind a glass texture (fyi), if that makes a difference… Problem #2…I am trying to use autoreflection mapping for the rearview mirror sitting on the dash to reflect the scene, but it isn't working…I have followed all of the steps in the reference manual on 9-37 to9-38 with no luck…the mirror is black…granted I'm not using a background at this time, but shouldn't the rest of the car be reflected? This isn't that big of a deal, but I saw the ability and I thought I'd try it on for size with no luck…thanks! Mark

Mark, Need to use a cone for the beam. Map a flic on the mirror. Your path is……….already plotted isn't it. Rick

Use a self-illuminated material on the headlight surfaces. If you want to cast beams of light, create a couple of cones and apply self-illuminated material combined with transparency/outside falloff. When flat-mirror reflections don't work, it's usually because the material exists in the object on two or more non-coplanar faces. Remember that it must be applied to _only_ the coplanar faces of your rear-view mirror. To check, to a Material Show, and take a look at which faces in the object contain the flat-mirror material. If your face assignment is correct, check to make sure that you've got specular color in the material, and that shininess is turned up. If that doesn't do it, make sure you've got objects in the view of the mirror. – Jack
