#Business Card Creation
4 messages in this thread
I am looking to do the ultimate quality business card created in 3DS. I have
tried once with a local bureau. I created a 800×600 TGA image that they
processed through a Mac and printed on the Linotronic. The image was very
washed out and they would not talk about getting it any better. This was with
3ds2 (pre-gamma options).
If anybody has gone through this I would appreciate your input on resolution,
file type, and maybe recommend a service bureau to do this. I assume that the
film route would be the best..is color separations necessary?
Thanks, Mike
Mike-
We do ours on IRIS prints on nice paper. They look great, though they are
pretty expensive to do this way. We provide 1050×600 .tga files to the
printer, which comes out to 300ppi. (You definitely need to calibrate the
gamma to the IRIS device.)
I would call Pete or Chris at Digital Pond in San Francisco. (I'm sure there
are IRIS service bureaus in your area. If you don't know of any, these guys do
great work.) (415) 495.7663. Ask them to explain how they printed my cards.

Thanks for the info, Noah. I have seen some pretty incredible Iris prints. I am
looking for maximum detail available. I will give Digital Pond a shout.

Hi there…
I did my business card in 3DS. I rendered to a TGA file, had it
digitally recorded to film, and then developed and printed normally as I would
photographic business cards.
I mapped a scene onto a 2 x 3.5 rectangle, floated some text over it,
and rendered at 1024 x 768 (which includes a black area around the rectangle).
The net resolution on the rectangle was about 900 x 700. The image detail is
excellent, and prints well. It would look even better at the higher resolutions
3DS supports, I suppose, but the rendering times / file sizes throw me off.
Anyway, hope this helps. Can't help with service bureau's unless you're
somewhere near Vancouver, B.C.
