#Printer Mystery, Amy 🙁
4 messages in this thread
Hello,
I have a mystery. A friend upgraded his A3000 from 2.04 to 2.1. His
printer, an old Gemini-15x full-width refuses to print from the Amiga. This has
been tried now on a Amiga 2000 (2.1), Two Amiga 3000/030's (2.1) and an Amiga
4000/040… I have tried a number of drivers and also tried printing directly
to the PAR: device. No luck. Just on the off chance, I loaded Cross-PC, copied
something to the prn device, and it printed like a champ! The company where he
took it to be repaired also was unable to get it to work on their Amiga. From a
real PC it prints just fine however.
Joe is besides himself. He keeps talking about how he should just sell
all his Amiga stuff and get a PC… I don't know what to tell him. I would
appreciate any info or comments on this problem!!
Thanks,
Don Suhr
Don,
When you say , "..refuses to print from the Amiga." do you mean that
nothing happens, that the Gemini prints out the wrong characters, that it
prints part of a page then garbage, etc.
Has your friend tried an Amiga specific printer cable? While a
standard IBM printer cable works in most cases…there ARE pins on the Amiga,
in particular…pin 14…that carry +5v on them. Epson printers use that line
to force double spaceing. Other printers may use it for something else.
If nothing else,if you can open the printer cable (the db25 end) try
unsoldering pin 14. That may fix the problem.

Don,
I tried to print from my Amiga 4000/040 with the same cable that I use in
printing to my HP-Laserjet 3 (In either HP or PS mode). It re-positions the
print head on a reboot of the Amiga, but when text is sent to it, it fails to
print anything (usually). In one test with the generic driver, it printed a
couple of incorrect characters out of a page of text and then stopped.
Any other thoughts?
Don

I thought that you print to either PRT: or PRN: not PAR:
