#Amiga Warranty Service
6 messages in this thread
While it is sad in knowing that Amiga went out of business or is rebuilding,
there are those of use who are in dire need of warranty repair with no
authorized service center ready to fix my machine because of what is happened.
They explain to me that Commodore Amiga won't reimburse them the warranty
service costs.
This is a problem. I have a A4000 running The Video Toaster and the other
day it completely died. The service center said there was a motherboard
defect. They could fix it by replacing the motherboard but that they wouldn't
do it under the warranty. All the other authorized service centers in the Los
Angeles area have said the same.
We were using the A4000 for its 3D animation capabilities and we are under a
tight deadline to deliver the project to our clients. This is a serious
financial issue for us. The machine is covered under warranty and we need it
fixed. Could you help us in finding a way of fixing this? What does Amiga
plan to do about it?
Thanks for the info.

Its strange that SMG is not doing the repairs,
In their notes to the public, during CBM-America's fall, they said
they would still honor the warrenties. Have they gone back on this
or are they having a problem with parts?
Seems strange they are asking for money. I thought CBM paid them
to be there service outlet. Then again I may be wrong.
As for a repair I would suggest that when all else fails look into
the back of AmigaWorld, find a Service center you can FEDEX to and
get the sucker there.
I too own a small company and know the problems you are suffering,
but without customers no cash………Oh well I hate the saying,
but its true, if you want to make money you need money.
Tell us all here what you find out. It may help others out in the
future. Also hold onto your reciepts, maybe whomever emerges to
rebuild and restore Amiga will honor your expense. The IRS
certainly will.

Have you contacted SMG directly? I was under the impression they were
handling warrenty service. I don't have the number handy, but perhaps one
of the other forum members does.
A company called Service Management Group (SMG), which as near as I
know is located "down the road" from Commodore's West Chester PA head-
quarters, was not only Commodore's official authorized Warranty Repair
company, but recently went on record as saying that they had more than
enough parts to repair any Amigas in need of service "for the time being"
(a statement supposedly similar to Creative Equipment Inc.'s "until this
thing blows over"). I would try contacting them (I don't have their
number off-hand, but if you call Commodore at West Chester, their voice-
mail system will give you the number) and seeing if you can't get "in-
warranty" repair from them.
Bruce:
Assuming that you NEED the machine if I were you I'd have the authorized
service center fix the machine, and pay them to do so, and insist that
they send you an itemized bill for it along with your old motherboard so
that should C= get reorganized, somebody buys them, etc, that you have
some way to prove that you needed the MB replaced, and then you could
possibly get reimbersed for the MB. I know it's not what you'd like to
hear, but it beats loosing money because the machine is broken!

Hi Bruce
Take it back to your dealer who you bought it from it is his problem,
hes has to supply you with the goods if it is under warranty, the olny
opions he has is to replace it or repair it. Its the law.
