There is a difference between SCSI termination and termination power. I
have an external terminator to provide SCSI bus termination, but something
is preventing the drive from providing termination power – which is
necessary for the drive to work with the Toshiba SCSI interface. Seems
that there needs to be power coming off pin 26, and it has been shorted
out – or something like that.

Oh, sorry Betty, perhaps I did not carefully read what was being said.
You are correct, SCSI does require power (5 volts comes to mind).
In all probability, some of the drive's connectors are attached to the
wrong pins of the SCSI connector. That is a common problem among SCSI
drives.
Another thing you might check is the SCSI address. Even though you set
whatever switch is provided on the external case that does not mean the
address is actually being changed. You could have a SCSI address conflict
even if you only have one SCSI device attached since the computer itself
has an address.

The problem was the termination power, all right. When I attached my
Amiga SCSI tape backup, the CDROM drive suddenly worked perfectly. I
have a friend in Dallas who can repair the drive, and he will do that next
week. I'd already checked the SCSI address problem when I used it on the
Amiga. That was OK.
