I hate using Windows (3.1, 3.11) but because programs like Quark and PhotoStyler work in Windows only, I am forced to use it. It would be nice to be able to pop into 3DS once in a while to do up a little logo or something without exiting Windows. I read the README.DOC info about running 3DS with Windows and using the PIF and everything, but when I try to launch it, it just returns right back to Windows with no explanation. Tried it on several machines with similar results. What's the trick? Windows is such a hassle. -Jeff

Did you install the pharlap.386 file as instructed? There are a number of folks here on the forum who are using 3DS with Windows extremely succesfully (Alan Iglesias is one of them). Perhaps one of them might be able to answer some specific questions. – G

Hi ! I had this problem, the best fix I found was to make a special 3DS.set file that I named 3DWIN.SET. In the 3DS.PIF in Windows on the line optional parameters I put SET=3DWIN.SET. At the first start the program configure itself as plain Vesa driven. Now I can go in 3DS thru Win 3.1 without bugs. The problem is that you loose RAM in that operation. Autodesk doesn't recommand rendering in that configuration, but it can be handy just to make check with files made with graphic software under Windows. Now,I'm wandering how the thing will work with Chicago (Windows 4.0) next fall. But that's another problem and we don't have to much hint on that. It's a top secret matter! Just to leave our imagination dreaming about 32 bits access. Hope this will help, from an intermediate beginners ! Pierre Menard Montreal

I did the PHARLAP.386 thing. Got it working though. The new IPAS stuff is pretty neat. Have fun at the GRAPH. Won't make it till '95 myself being one of those right coasters…

Jim, The two main problems in settingup Windows that people have run into are forgeting to put PHARLAP.386 in their Windows directory and the system.ini file, and problems with the Vibrant drivers. Follow the instructions carefully in the install guide on setting up under Windows in chapter two. Also, make sure you are first configured for VESA or plain VGA while setting it up. Once you have it running in that video mode, then go and try the Vibrant drivers.
